For this week’s “Share Your Battle” Challenge, we will talk about one of my favorite cards in the game: The Time Mage. I feel like the Life Splinter is very much disliked in the community which makes this card a little bit overlooked but in my opinion it is one of the best cards to level and play in until the Silver Leagues. In this article we will break down what makes this card so special, talk about the strategies to use this card with and take a look at some practical examples in the end!

Time Mage

We start off by talking about the Time Mage itself. Like mentioned in the intro this card belongs to the Life Element. Furthermore it is a rare card which makes it playable for everybody. Therefore, you should definitely give it a try if you have the chance to do so. This card costs us 4 mana and as a magic attacker is very valuable in every team. On the basic level it has one mana attack with 3 health points as well as 4 speed. The true power of this card comes with its ability. The Slow ability nerfs every opponent’s monster and deducts 1 speed from them. This is very powerful as it increases our chances to dodge an attack as well as gives us the first movers advantage which can be crucial in the late game. On higher levels this card gets more speed, more attack and in the final stage also more health. Furthermore, it gets the Rust Ability once we are in the Gold Leagues. This allows us to reduce the armor of all enemies.

Team & Strategy

Now that we know the strength of this card, let’s talk about how to utilize it to our advantage. Because this monster is in the Life Splinter, I like to use General Sloan as summoner. This has the advantage of all of our monsters to get an additional range attack. In order to protect all of our monsters my number one tank of choice is always Shieldbearer because of his Taunt ability. With this set up we can guarantee the protection of our Range attacker, slow down our enemy with the Time Mage and deal a ton of damage with cards like Pelacor Arbalest which has the Double strike Ability as well as Prismologist which comes with the Explosion Ability. As an extra insurance, I always tend to play the Benari Crystalsmith just to make sure that our tank stays alive long enough for us to deal enough damage.

Example Battles

With the outline of our strategy, let’s take a look at some examples. Especially the first two battles are showing the advantage of the first mover! Because we have the poison rule set in both of them the time is definitely against both players. With this being said, the first one to strike will have a massive advantage as the poison often leaves the monsters with a small amount of health left. After a few rounds of poison, whoever strikes first wins which is why the Time Mage is such an important card in these Rulesets. I think that all three battles were won very comfortably and are showing the advantage of the higher speed, whether it is by hitting first or being able to dodge some of our opponent’s attacks. Every time the Time Mage has a big influence on the outcome of our battle!

I hope I was able to bring you a new use case for your battle portfolio and hope that you give this strategy a try! In my opinion the Time Mage is one hell of a card is very often overlooked 😊
