Another week, another “Share Your Battle” Competition! This time we have a very interesting card around: Venari Spellsmith. In this article we will take a look at this neutral card, discuss some possible strategies and when to use this card best. Furthermore, we will take a look at the cards that I liked to use with the Venari Spellsmith and last but not least discuss different battles where we utilized the before mentioned strategies! With that out of the way, let’s take a look at this week’s “star”.

Venari Spellsmith

As mentioned above: let’s start with the card to watch: Venari Spellsmith. It is a neutral card so very perfect to use in any kind of situation. Furthermore, It is a Magic attacker which makes this card a great asset against armored cards. Especially in combination with the Earth Summoner Obsidian, this card really starts to shine. Because its attack gets buffed we can deal more damage and because it is an magic attacker, it is almost guaranteed to hit.

The negatives of this card are obvious as well. Not only is it rather slow with 2 speed it also does not have the highest health with 2 health. On the other side, this card has the Dispel Ability. This means that any buffs the opponent’s card has, this card can erase. Especially with additional armor or additional health it is a very powerful ability that I really like to use regularly.

Queen Mycelia

Now we need to discuss which cards to put around the Spellsmith. As we are using the Earth Splinter for this one, It is pretty much a no-brainer to utilize Queen Mycelia. Not only does this card only cost 4 mana but this card also has the Protect ability. This means that we can add additional 2 armor to all of our monsters and ensure some protection against melee and ranged attackers. Not only that but it also helps us to mitigate some damage against the earthquake Ruleset as we will see later in the example battles. Furthermore, this card is a magic attacker which gets buffed by our Earth Summoner. The only real drawback this card has is its speed. With only one speed this card is guaranteed to attack last but it is also beneficial in the Slow Ruleset that comes every once in a while.

Damage Dealers

As we ensured protection, we need to think about dealing some damage. Here we have certain cards that we can use. In most cases and depending on the amount of mana that we have available I like to use Djinn Biljka and Regal Peryton. When we are a little bit tight on mana, Djinn is the clear choice. In my case we are getting 3 mana damage for just three mana which is amazing. If we have a little bit more mana to spend, Regal Peryton is a very good choice as we also get 3 mana damage but definitely more speed. With 6 speed this card is almost guaranteed to attack first in every round and with the flying ability is very hard to hit if attacked by low speed monsters.

What I very much like about the Djinn is his Void ability on the second level. If we are up against other magic cards that only have one magic attack, this card will absorb the attacks and will not suffer any damage. The drawback with this card is yet again the speed. With only one speed it is again almost guaranteed to go last in every turn but as long as its survives it is a great damage dealer.

Puffer Cards

Last but not least, we need to talk about some filler cards to protect our magic attackers. Because the following matches all have not the greatest mana available to us we need to be creative. Because we are able to protect our cards with some additional armor, every additional card that we play will have additional armor attached to it. This is why I like to play quantity over quality.

Due to the lack of armor I like to use cards with only one or zero mana costs. These are the Fungus Fiend, Mycelic Morphoid or the Chaos agent. All of them are very helpful at level one but are getting stronger with higher levels! Especially as protection against Sneak attackers, these cards are great to use. But also as provisional tanks those cards to a great job of absorbing some of our opponent’s attacks.

Example Battles

With the core of our team out of the way, let’s talk about strategy and look at some example battles. In the first battle, we were facing another Earth Player. Unlike us, he chose to take the other Earth Summoner who deletes our armor buffs. On top of that, there is the Earthquake ruleset which is probably why most of his monsters have the flying ability. Because of the additional Opportunity Ruleset, we are able to defeat one of his flying cards very early on. But because he was able to take our armor away, we are left with no armor very quickly. This comes down ultimately to a duel between both of ours Regals which we were able to win because of our speed and damage advantage.

In the second battle, we were up against a anti-magic water player. It is a very smart choice against our pure magic team but his choice of monsters was unfortunately poor. Because of the Void Ability of our Djinn he were able to hold back every magic attack that this opponent had. If you add this with the fact that were able to erase pretty much his entire team before you will get the result: A very comfortable win for the Spellsmith and friends.

Last but not least we have a battle against a Fire Team. In this specific battle, the summoner buffs were deactivated which meant that we could not deal as much damage as we would like to. On the other side, we were able to utilize one of our buffers against his Sneak and Opportunity attacks. Due to its armor it was able to hold back both attacks before departing. Because we are able to deal 6 magic damage every turn, we went trough his tank rather quickly and had almost no casualties in this battle.
