Hardfork 26 is getting really close. I've just read through a mainly technical post for witnesses by @themarkymark, and it looks like the hardfork date remained settled at October 11th. If nothing happens in between, that's when the hardfork will occur. That's next week, on Tuesday, only a couple of days away.

I'm still wondering why there's no public announcement about HF26 on @hiveio, our official blockchain account on Hive if we can call it like that. Is it because the date isn't really set yet, although it's hardcoded to be less than a week into the future? Or it was an oversight?
During a hardfork, the heavy lifting is done by our Hive witnesses. And they need to be ready for it, primarily.
But that doesn't mean we can't do a little bit ourselves before it happens.
The first thing I can think of is to check our witness votes. Be careful who you take away the votes from! During this period witnesses will start to switch to the new 1.26.0 version of the blockchain (hived), and there might be downtime, which may result in some witness nodes being temporarily down, while they replay the new version.
Any vote on a witness that runs a blockchain version below the current one (1.25.0) is wasted because they don't produce any blocks even if the nodes are active. After a successful hardfork 26, version 1.25.0 will become obsolete as well, and all witnesses that will be in consensus will run a version of hived of 1.26.x. "x" might differ between witnesses if the minor version upgrade doesn't affect consensus.
What else can you do to prepare for HF26 as a regular user?
I'm not sure there's much else, but here's something else that I'll do in one of the following days.

I will disable the 'Claim Accounts' auto-task option in Keychain.
Why? I don't know if front ends will offer RC delegation right after the HF26 is completed, but I'm going to assume at least the major ones will.
I wouldn't want to have my RCs depleted automatically to claim account tokens when I'll need them to be delegated to replace some HP delegations I have and which will no longer be needed (as HP delegations).

So thanks for the reminder and for pointing out some important facts. I'll go check my automated task if I have that ticked or not.
In between, do you have any idea of the financial benefits of delegating RC? That How's been calculated and which of the hive assets the payments for delegation will be, hive or HBD? Thanks 😊
There is no incentive for delegating RCs... currently. What it helps with is unlocking some of your HP, if you have it delegating to some places that only need RCs. That HP that becomes unlocked you can use to curate or delegate for profit if you want to.
Alright, thanks for letting me know. I just checked through my keychain, but didn't see the option to claim accounts, only option for H-E reward claim and HBD savings claim. Maybe something's wrong.
There isn't anything wrong. You just don't have enough HP to have that option visible. You probably need to control at least a dolphin-size HP to have enough RCs at max level to be able to claim account tokens.
Alright, thanks for letting me know this.

Thanks, once again, Adrian, for explaining some of the technical sides to Hive.
I appreciate the information.

You're welcome. I like to share these things because I remember it was difficult for me to understand some of the technical sides of Hive at the beginning. And, of course, I still don't know a lot about it, since I'm not involved at any technical level on Hive.
Hello =) Thanks for this information. Where can I vote for the witnesses?

From all major interfaces (or from Keychain). On PeakD, it's from here:
Oh thank you so much!! =)
You're welcome.
Very interesting. Perhaps after the update I will start earning some money. My blog will be noticed. It would be great. Thank you very much for the informative post.
I don't believe this hardfork makes any changes regarding the discoverability of content. That's still on you. Be "everywhere" and people will start noticing you.
PS: There are photography communities on Hive. Search for them.
Thank you very much. I wish you success.
This is new to me. Once we make a vote to a witness, can we retract that vote and give it to another witness? Or is it just permanent.
We can change our witness votes as often as we want/feel it's necessary. Most people don't update them often enough.
Exciting times coming Adrian.
Yep, they are coming indeed.
Being able to delegate RC is amazing. Hope the HF goes smoothly.

We haven't had any issues with HFs on Hive. That's not to say they can't happen. Just saying testing seems more thorough than in the past when it would have been a surprise if a HF went without any issues.
Oh, that's great to know :) That is to say the HF is going to happen silently then :)

I hope so. It's a huge HF with many changes. Many core-level elements have been rewritten or optimized, that the user will never be aware of if everything works just fine.
Would be amazing if that happens, us not being able to feel anything while the HF is ongoing and we will just see the effects after it's done :)

Oh, the witnesses can already upgrade now I guess so I will have to check my witnesses closer to the hard fork date if there are any that haven't upgraded. As for RCs, I don't have enough to claim accounts and I don't think there is a market for RCs yet so I am not worried on that end.

Checking witnesses who haven't upgraded closer to the hardfork is important. And I'm sure people will pay very close attention to at least Top 20-30 during the critical moments.
As for RCs, yes, there isn't a market for them yet. But I still love the fact HP and RCs have been separated and now I can use only RCs on accounts from which I don't vote, and move (i.e. delegate) HP on accounts from which I vote.
Maybe its good for everyone to view delegations before the fork.
I don't think we'll have that. There was enough time to have that, but they chose to add RC delegations together with the HF, although they don't affect consensus. But maybe they wanted to have the RC overhaul at the same time.
Thank you sharing this. I have learned something new today.
