I recently made a post of my
world bill collection, today I will show you my collection of coins, which is much bigger than the bills one. I've always liked coins more than bills, I like the idea of being able to pay for something with just one coin, it's like cooler, more romantic, I don't know how to explain it hahaha, other than that, when we think of treasures, we think of a lot of coins and finally I have to say that purses are prettier than wallets hehehe.
Todo empezó hace años con unas cuántas monedas que a mi papá le habían quedado de sus viajes y las había guardado, estaban en la casa y yo solía tomarlas para jugar. Poco a poco me interesé en la idea de coleccionarlas así que me apropié de ellas jajaja (bueno, a mi papá no le importó mucho). Cuando mi papá me las dió, había monedas de cuatro países, actualmente tengo monedas de veinte países.
It all started many years ago with a few coins that my dad had left from his travels and he had kept them, they were in our house and I used to to play with Them. Little by little I got interested in the idea of collecting coins so I appropriated them hahaha (well, my dad didn't care much). When my dad gave them to me, there were coins from four countries, now I have coins from twenty countries.
Algunas de estas monedas me las han regalado, otras son de viajes que he hecho e incluso hay una que me la encontré. Las monedas son más fáciles de mantener porque no se dañan, ni se rompen como los billetes que ya sabemos son más delicados y hay que guardarlos abiertos y preferiblemente en un álbum, con las monedas no hay problema, se pueden poner en cualquier lugar, caja, bolsa, lata, lo que sea. Yo siempre las he tenido en una bolsa de tela. Esta bolsa era de un whisky que mi papá había comprado, la botella venía dentro de esta bolsa y mi papá me la dió para que las guardara allí.
Some of these coins have been given to me, others are from trips I have made and there is even one that I found. Coins are easier to maintain because they don't broke like bills, which we already know are more delicate and must be kept open and preferably in an album. There is no problem with coins, they can be placed anywhere, in a box, a bag, a can, whatever. I have always had them in a cloth bag. This bag was from a whiskey that my dad had bought, the bottle came inside this bag and my dad gave it to me to keep the coins there.
La palabra moneda viene del latín "moneta" por el templo de Juno Moneta en Roma, al cual estaba anexada la casa donde eran acuñadas. Se estima que las primeras monedas acuñadas aparecieron entre los siglos VII y VI a.c., sin embargo, unos sellos fechados entre los años 2.500 y 1.750 a.c. encontrados en lo que actualmente es Pakistán, se cree que pudieron haber sido un tipo de moneda.
The word coin comes from the Latin "moneta" for the temple of Juno Moneta in Rome, to which the house where they were minted was attached. It is estimated that the first minted coins appeared between the 7th and 6th centuries BC, however, some seals dated between 2,500 and 1,750 BC. found in what is now Pakistan, it is believed that they may have been a type of currency.

Formerly, all commercial transactions were handled through barter, however, this system used to bring more problems than solutions, so to facilitate the flow of trade they began to use objects of different shapes made of precious metals, over time, those that were more accepted were the ones with circular or ring shapes.
Las primeras monedas en ser acuñadas con carácter oficial se hicieron en un pueblo de Asia menor llamado Lidia (actualmente Turquía), le siguieron Persia y Grecia. Entre los metales que más se utilizaban para acuñar monedas estaban la plata, el bronce, el cobre y el oro. Actualmente los más utilizados son níquel, aluminio, cobre, latón, acero inoxidable entre otras aleaciones.
The first coins to be officially minted were made in a town in Asia Minor called Lydia (now Turkey), followed by Persia and Greece. Among the metals that were most used to mint coins were silver, bronze, copper and gold.
Currently the most used materials are nickel, aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel among other alloys.
De todas mis monedas hay algunas como las de Europa que ya no existen por haber sido sustituidas por el euro y otras que están descontinuadas así que son más valiosas aún, les presento mi colección:
Of all my coins there are some from Europe that no longer exist because they have been replaced by the euro and some others that are out of circulation, so they are even more valuable, I present my collection:
*Italia: su moneda era la lira italiana, estas monedas me las dió hace años mi mamá. Lo que más me llama la atención de ellas es lo brillantes que son, parece como si fuesen nuevas.
*Italy: it's currency was the Italian lira, these coins were given to me years ago by my mom. What most strikes me about them is how bright they are, it seems as if they were new.
*Cuba: su moneda es el peso cubano, me las regaló mi hermana.
*Cuba: its currency is the Cuban peso, my sister gave them to me.
*Chipre: esta libra chipriota me la dió mi hermana. Me gusta cuando las monedas tienen grabados de animales.
*Cyprus: my sister gave me this cypriot libra. I like when coins have animals images.
*Inglaterra: su moneda es la libra esterlina, no recuerdo quien me la dió.
*Inglaterra: its currency is the Sterling libra, I don't remember who gave it to me.
*México: su moneda es el peso mexicano, si mal no recuerdo un amigo de mi hermana que había viajado a México se las regaló.
*Mexico: its currency is the Mexican peso, if I remember correctly a friend of my sister who had traveled to Mexico gave them to her.
*Brasil: me parece que los reales son demasiado sencillos para ser de este país tan colorido y exótico jajaja.
*Brazil: I find the reales too simple to be from this colorful and exotic country hahaha.
*Argentina: el material de los pesos argentinos luce bastante desgastado, lo que hace que parezcan viejos, aunque no los son.
*Argentina: the material of the argentine pesos looks quite worn, which makes them look old, although they aren't.
*Países Bajos: su moneda era el florín neerlandés, estas forman parte de las monedas que eran de mi papá, él había estado varias veces en ese país. Dos de ellas son de las más pequeñas de mi colección.
*The Netherlands: its currency was the dutch guilder, these are part of the coins that belonged to my father, he had been to that country several times. Two of them are among the smallest in my collection.
*Grecia: antes del euro, la moneda era la dracma, mi familia es griega así que tengo bastantes porque pasé mi infancia allá y me las traje a Venezuela cuando nos mudamos, las otras las obtuve de familiares que nos vinieron a visitar.
*Greece: before the euro, the greek currency was dracma, my family is Greek so I have many of these because I lived my childhood there and I brought them with me when we moved to Venezuela, the others gave them to me from relatives who came to visit us later.
*Panamá: su moneda es la balboa, no es una moneda independiente sino una versión local del dólar estadounidense. Estas también eran de mi papá, él había ido varias veces a Panamá por negocios y a visitar a familiares.
*Panama: its currency is the balboa, it's not an independent currency but a local version of the US dollar. These were also from my father, he had gone to Panama several times for business and to visit relatives.
*República Dominicana: un tío me regaló estos pesos dominicanos. Todos estos están fuera de circulación.
*Dominican Republic: an uncle gave me these Dominican pesos. All these are out of circulation.
*Bolivia: la moneda de Bolivia es el peso boliviano, creo que un amigo de mi hermana que fue a Bolivia se la regaló y ella me la dió.
*Bolivia: this country's currency is the Bolivian peso, I think a friend of my sister who went to Bolivia gave it to her and she gave it to me.
This coin is made of stainless steel and it's the thinner of my collection
*Estados Unidos de América: su moneda es el dólar, estas monedas también estaban entre las que tenía mi papá, aunque él nunca fue a Estados Unidos tenía estas monedas que le habían quedado de las compras de sus viajes.
*United States of America: the dollar is its currency, these coins were also between those that my father had, although he never went to the United States, he had these coins that he had left over from the purchases of his trips.
*España: las pesetas ya no existen así que tengo estas dos que no recuerdo de dónde las saqué jajaja.
*Spain: pesetas don't exist anymore so I have these two that I don't remember where I got them hahaha.
*Japón: el yen es su moneda, la encontré en uno de los cuartos del apartamento donde mis primos y mis tíos se habían mudado, es muy ligera, parece como de hojalata.
*Japan: the Japanese currency is yen, I found this coin in one of the rooms of the apartment where my cousins, uncle and aunt had moved, is very light, it looks like tin.
*Polonia: la moneda es el esloti, creo que alguien se la regaló a mi hermana, aunque ella dice no acordarse jajaja.
*Poland: their currency is zloti, I think someone gave it to my sister, although she says that doesn't remember hahaha.
*Rusia: una amiga de mi hermana que viajó a Rusia le regaló estos rublos.
*Russia: a friend of my sister who traveled to Russia gave these rublos to her.
*Chile: estos pesos chilenos me sobraron de un viaje que hice a este país.
*Chile: these chilean pesos had leftovers from a trip I made to this country.
*Euros: si bien el euro es una moneda global para los países que forman parte de la comunidad europea, para esta publicación los separé en dos partes, los euros griegos y los del resto de Europa.
*Euros: Although the euro is a global currency for the countries that are part of the European community, for this post I separated them in two parts, the Greek euros and those of the rest of Europe.
*Euros griegos: son las únicas que utilizan un alfabeto diferente al latino, tienen inscripciones en griego y figuras alusivas a la mitología e historia de este país.
*Greek euros: they are the only that don't use latin scripts, they have inscriptions in Greek and figures alluding to the mythology and history of this country.
*Euros del resto de Europa: el lado donde está el valor de la moneda es igual para todos los países, mientras que del otro lado la moneda muestra personajes o símbolos alusivos al país que identifique.
*Euros from the rest of Europe: the side whith the value of the coin is the same for all the countries, while the other side shows characters or symbols alluding to the country that identifies.
Disfruté enormemente hacer esta publicación, sin embargo, tomar las fotos fue una ardua tarea. Las monedas brillan y tienen detalles muy pequeños así que la luz es fundamental, si hay mucha los detalles no se verán bien, si hay poca lucirán de un color diferente al que tienen. Estas son las fotos más difíciles que me ha tocado hacer jajaja, a cada moneda le hacía hasta diez fotos para comprobar que salían bien los detalles y el color. Entre las que borré y las que quedaron para la publicación creo que fueron más de cien fotos.
I thoroughly enjoyed making this post, however taking the photos was quite an arduous task. The coins shine and have very small details, so light is essential, if there is too much, the details will not be seen well, if there is little, they'll look a different color than they have. These are the most difficult photos I have ever taken hahaha, I took up to ten photos of each coin to check that the details and color came out well. Between the ones I deleted and the ones left for the post, I think there were more than a hundred photos.
Cómo anécdota de la sesión de fotos les cuento que algunas de las monedas que tengo son piezas únicas así que le tomaba foto a un lado, luego al otro y las unía a través de un collage. Para las monedas que tengo repetidas fue mucho más sencillo, simplemente ponía una moneda del lado anverso al lado de una por el reverso y listo.
As an anecdote of the photo session I tell you that some of the coins I have are unique pieces so I took a photo of one side, then the other and joined them through a collage. For the coins that I have repeated, it was much easier, I simply put a coin on the front side next to one on the back and took the photo.
A muchas personas no les gustan las monedas porque son pesadas y hacen ruido, yo las encuentro fascinantes. Escribir sobre mi colección me hizo aprender sobre las monedas que tengo, nunca les había prestado mucha atención, simplemente las he ido coleccionando sin profundizar más en lo que hay detrás de ellas, ahora las observo de otra manera y se que hay un mundo muy interesante en esto que se llama numismática.
Many people don't like coins because they are heavy and make noise, I find them fascinating. Writing about my collection made me learn about the coins I have, I had never paid much attention to them, I have simply been collecting them without going deeper into what is behind them, now I observe them in a different way and I know that there is a very interesting world in this hobby called numismatics.
Las monedas están entre los objetos coleccionables más apreciados a nivel mundial y muchas de ellas llegan a alcanzar precios astronómicos ya sea por su rareza, el material del que están hechas, su antigüedad o algún detalle que las hace únicas. La moneda más cara vendida en una subasta ha sido la "Double Eagle" (Aguila doble), hecha en un 90% de oro y un 10% de cobre, que el año pasado se vendió por 18,9 millones de dólares.
Coins are among the most appreciated collectibles worldwide and many of them reach astronomical prices either because of their rarity, the material they are made of, their age or some detail that makes them unique. The most expensive coin sold at auction has been the "Double Eagle", made of 90% gold and 10% copper, which sold for $18,9 million last year.

Sí, la verdad es que es muy interesante coleccionar monedas, no solo es divertido sino que también muy educativo, se aprende mucho sobre historia, cultura, geografía, etc. Y está también la parte emocionante de conseguir una moneda que valga mucho dinero jajaja. Me encantaría ver las monedas escondidas que debes tener por ahí 😃, ojalá puedas encontrarlas.
