Vitalik Buterin VS Dan Larimer Debate Hosted By Hive

Vitalik Buterin and Dan Larimer are among the recognized names in crypto space for being pioneers in creation and development of blockchain technologies and contributing to building decentralized systems. They both a similar in away that they are talented coders, inspired by Satoshi Nakamoto's bitcoin network, has been active in the crypto space since the beginning of their journey. They both don't shy away from expressing their thoughts not only about the blockchain technologies, decentralizations but also what affects they may have to society and politics.

While there are commonalities between them like their passion for decentralized systems, they have disagree on many topics, especially how this decentralization can be achieved. There are also differences in their political views. Even the blockchains they have created used different consensus algorithms.

We often see them exchanging tweets arguing one point or the other. One of the recent ones is about Vitalik's views on the future of "multi-chain" and "cross-chain".

My argument for why the future will be multi-chain, but it will not be cross-chain: there are fundamental limits to the security of bridges that hop across multiple "zones of sovereignty".

~Vitalik

On the other hand, Dan seems to have ideas about building bridges among networks and communities.

I'm hoping to bridge #hive and #Bitshares communities. We all benefit by working together.

~Dan

They have many more interesting back and forth ideas like this. As someone who is interested in blockchain tech and decentralized system, I do find them informative and educational. I don't pay too much attention to the political aspects they present. That's where things get a little bit boring. But if this was a debate or a dialogue between these two talented blockchain founders, I wouldn't mind paying to watch.

They both are aware of Hive network, its community, and its accomplishments. Wouldn't it be great for Hive to host them for a debate or dialogue on the topic of "future of decentralized systems and Web3" or something like that? I think that would be something really cool.

We already have talented interviewers who do talks on Web3, decentralization, blockchain, etc. It would be great to see such a debate or dialogue hosted and moderated by Community Token Talk (@theycallmedan & @starkerz) or CryptoManiacs Podcast (@jongolson & @taskmaster4450). Gentlemen, if you make this happen, I promise I will pay to watch. :)

I think it is possible, since both Vitalik and Dan respect Hive community and recognize its accomplishments. Most importantly this would be a truly decentralized space for such event to happen. Debates and discussions about decentralized systems and their future are done best on a truly decentralized platforms.

Such a debate would be quite memorable,

Maybe you could host such debate/dialogue?

She shills any coin that pays her to do so, she would not be a good choice, because she can be bought and would not be impartial. This information came out about her and other Youtube crypto channels a few months ago on Reddit, you can look it up, it was the top story on the r/cryptocurrency page with over 4 million people. She also regularly post completely misleading and ridiculous titles in her videos like "the next 1000x coin!!!!1".

That's true :D

It is a good thing both Vitalik and Dan are decentralized blockchain proponents. Par-adventure they both come up against each other in a debate that will be my definition of a healthy competition.

This would be a milestone to be achieved by hive, it is a debate that would bring more activity to the blockchain.

The crypto maniac podcast would be an intriguing one, let's make this happen.
Seeing a debate has been a long one I've always looked forward, the same perspectives but different views.

yes, almost like a ..... @telosnetwork milestone smart contract (Which hive could add to @hivedao along with expanding on the idea of decentralized workers unions, building out more tools to help the grouping workers together into individual proposals. )

@dan Larimer already posts here and I know Vitalik helped spot something in dan's code once or vica versa, maybe that was on reddit .... but an AMA where commenters can actually get paid for their good questions is going to be epic and create chains of endless comment discussions and a need for new forum front ends like the old steemit @chainbb to organize all the comment replies with deep rewards over time .... i imagine people earning $100s in rewards over and over for great responses that everyone on chain will read and thus understand..... in fact we may even start having to have hive show TOP COMMENTS of the day in its own Condenser trending section!

question: Are the so-called decentralized systems 100% decentralized? How much decentralization percentage does Hive have? Are there parameters to measure it?

that's such a good question

I think @blocktivity could make a metric of decentralization by taking into account an equation with variables including Activity Transactions, Stake based Ownership ratios, number of users, and marketcap maybe and find a number that can show us data about HOW many users at the TOP own HOW much, how balanced the distribution is and I'm sure there's some great math for that, like coinfair or https://blocktivity.info can create!

I JUST read a comment a few minutes ago on an old @dan larimer youtube video talking about how EOS before it came out, and the 20 witness/ block producer system reminded them of the Federal reserve lol and it is sort of like a decentralized federal reserve with the top 20 families, and they are all voted in by shareholders with shares distributed to ensure they all in power due to a form of paper and pen "ninja mining" back 100 years ago hah

It is an interesting question. I am not sure if there such thing as 100% decentralization, but there should be some threshold to be at least decentralized enough to further facilitate the progress.

I will have to think and research more on this. But to give a quick answer, to derive some metrics I would consider how difficult it is for the system or network to fall under control of one entity or a group of entities. Then I would also consider distribution of influence. Combining these two I think we can come up with a meaningful method of measuring levels of decentralization.

I would categorize Hive as at least decentralized enough to keep the network secure. But in comparison to other networks, Hive would be much more decentralized.

Don't you think this is a bit clickbaity? Aside from lack of date, it looks more like an announcement than a hypothetical on the trending page.

Now that you point it out, it does seem so. Sorry, that wasn't the intention.

I love HIVE but you are completely right, it is not decentralized at all.

I'd pay to watch this as well.

Fun fact, @dan and Vitalik have had real life in person interactive debates at tech conferences and dan had his own Hype Men back him him up everytime he made a bold tech point about scaling or whatever

Vitalik also once "joked" that EOS was the future of Ethereum

some more videos of dan talking about vitalik and ethereum while at the same tech conference years ago... it's important to see what was going on in the crypto space during the time AFTER ethereum came out and BEFORE steemit came out...when competitors like dan larimer tried to compete with ethereum but came up against an incredible wall of challenges which he faced one at a time working on the DEX with bitshares, social media networks with steem / hive and smart contracts and governance and nfts finally with eos telos and wax.

This is all done using Dan larimer's new edenos for the Digital face scan detailed animated NFT IDs and ClarionOS , dan's new ipfs blogging with hive and eos and wax nfts for ids on edenos, we see the whole system moving together like voltron, with telos dstor.cloud hosting it all in the place of amazon web servers... maybe even add our own private starlink ISP system to go a step further and add starlink bandwidth as eos or telos NET stake or Hive resource credits model for starlink user data that literally provides free internet access to peopel around the world who produce, curate or engage with/in profitable productive blockchain social media content and activities. It's all very exciting to imagine.

its crucial to understand what was going on in @dan larimer's mind BEFORE he created bitshares ... which a few years later led to the 2016 launch of https://steemit.com and $STEEM which led us to here on Hive (Scarey to imagine theer are many new users some with lots of newly purchased Hivepower, who have no idea what STEEMIT was or why Steem is important to hive lol now that's sad.

Maybe we need to educate people on the history of DPOS and eosio with some sort of documentary funded on the hivedao and upvotes for daily updates on the work in the documentary...

image.png

from ethereum to bitshares to steemit to tron and hive and EOS and telos and WAX (and ethereum and EOS's EVM Ethereum Virtual Machine comes back full circle to Ethereum to scale it by running ethereum INSIDE EOSIO (tech created from hive's dpos )

That would be an interesting debate/discussion. It would probably be good marketing for the chain as well. I'm sure a lot of people outside the Hive community would watch as well.

question: Are the so-called decentralized systems 100% decentralized? How much decentralization percentage does Hive have? Are there parameters to measure it?

Were these questions meant for me or for @geekgirl?

I don't know the answers sorry.

They both are my favorite crypto experts and they are really very generous. I'm familiar with the generosity of Sir Dan. He is awesome and I really love the way he host CTT episodes.

I would like to see this happen as well. Debates are always good as we get to see multiple views of the topic and then we can decide which one we believe more.

They are really awesome people to have in the crypto world with their contribution is totally massive

They are my favorite. Lets make it happen, and it will be awesome.

Amazing crypto experts which I believe is undoubtedly a spec regardless of their differed views

Would love to see Richard Heart added into the mix

I think it would be a Civil Debate, I like Dan's outlook better in terms of other communities working together and collaborating. I'm sure he's proud of $Hive

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

This is a great idea. Not only will it be great but something that will start opening door to more hive addoption, from people that follow that and those who will be wanting to hear them over time. Amazing line of thought

Having the duo discuss on Hive will be a great publicity. I believe @theycallmedan can pull some strings to have them interviewed on 3speak. A crazy idea just crept into my mind.

Can I use this post image on a similar post please?

Yes, of course.

Wow. Thanks so much for the permission.

That's a good call!

All I can think about is how much attention this would bring to Hive. The knowledge bombs would be catastrophic.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

This might never happen but it would be interesting to watch.
Maybe two AIs trained on their tweets would work to have a debate.

This is going to be very very interesting! 😱

If they are invited am sure they will honor it because they have passion for decentralized system. Am happy because they keep the good work of Satoshi Nakamoto's going about there view on things it can't be the same we all have different perception to things

I have greatly enjoyed many of the articles @dan published on STEEM including the ones where he was debating Vitalik Buterin. I learned many things going through the discourse of these two people (Vitalik's replies were off-chain; unfortunately) and the ones who joined the conversation in the comments.

Your article got me thinking of those old times. I would love to see these behemoths of the industry create an account on HIVE. At least they could use @dbuzz and connect that with Twitter.

I'm also very interested in the Ex-Steemit teams that is currently building Koinos.

Spot on!! But has Vitalik talked abut Hive anywhere??... just curious.

Yes, he has talked about Hive several times on Twitter and Medium.

Wow that's interesting!!

That will be epic having Hive right in the middle.

This is something i would loooooooove go see. 💵💵💵 Take my money please...

I had no idea Dan was still interested in Hive, so surprised to see that comment.

I can see it happening - after all, Hive is definitely big enough to catch their attention :) Who else would you like to see interviewed / hosted?

yea, that would be so cool! :) I don't know much of anything, but just from there 1 statement, it seems like I would agree with Dan more.

I will like to fund this if possible

I don't know why I assumed it is happening. As you said, it would be fun to watch these two debate on Hive platform. A genius marketing opportunity for sure.
