Writing relevant and high quality content is important for your website. However, if you want your content to rank, there has to be a strategy behind it.
Choosing the right focus keywords for your content is an important step in that strategy. It may sound funny to tag your focus keyword and tell Google, "please this content for this keyword". Instead what you can do is to add focus keyword in the key parts of your content where Google or other search engine is going to look for it.
What are Focus Keywords?
A focus keyword represents the topic of your page helping you to focus on the topic and optimize your page for the said topic. These are words you want your content to rank for.
A focus keyword could be a single word or a whole phrase. If you have done your keyword research ever before, you might not have difficulty understanding what your focus keywords should be.
The words or phrases that users type in search engines are the best focus keywords to select from. You can optimize your content for unlimited keywords and bring in more audience as compared to optimizing it for 1 focus keyword.
But keep in mind that you shouldn't get carried away with adding several keywords. Add only a reasonable number of keywords to optimize a single post for as adding more focus keywords than what was necessary could do more harm than good.
