Things I would change about my #yoruba culture is the issue of tribal marks, especially on innocent who do not have any idea what it is about until they grow old.

Sort:

there was a story one time where, the parents of the child left for work and the grandmother, made the incisions on the child before they got back, claiming it was traditional.
#crossculture

they give several reasons from doing this like claiming it's for identification or beautification. This has caused depression and bullying for some kids when they grow up.

I would love for this tradition to be erased as it causes so much pain and is no longer necessary in the modern world.

Yeah, the marks sometimes disfigures the face

like seriously, and it makes the recipients shy and even give them low self esteem

I hope they'll work towards making amends

lol, I really don't like this aspect of yoruba that they call tradition/culture, especially on an innocent child. this is really bad and insulting to the child in future when the peers start making jest of him/her.

truly, can lead to depression sef

Hahaha. I seriously don't like this tribal mark. Sometimes I wonder how they saw it as a form of beauty, maybe in the old they perceived beauty differently

it's so crazy yeah... And the old way is different from the new. #crossculture

A lot has changed

yes, if someone does it willingly that’s another story. I’ve always doubted something in my culture, the clipping of the foreskin for baby boys. They say it’s for cleanliness but meanwhile most of the world is fine without this

maybe to prevent the skin from infection after the circumcision is done...
