Mortgage Rates are Down and New Listings are Up
The housing market might be turning around for frustrated would-be buyers as mortgage rates dip and listings rise, according to the real estate brokerage Redfin.
The interest rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage is down to 7.03%, according to government-backed lender Fannie Mae. It peaked at just above 8% in early October. That marked a 23-year high.
In response to that change, Redfin says, mortgage applications are up 15% since early November when they hit a 28-year low, and new listings of homes are up 7% from last year, when interest rates were spiking. As a result, applications to buy a home are rising.
Japanese Shares Eye Early Slump After Yen Surge
Asian stocks are set for an early fall Friday, shrugging off a rally on Wall Street, as traders ratchet bets the Bank of Japan is nearing the end of its negative interest rate policy.

Brazil will address the subject of digital currencies and how they can improve the financial system for the Group of Twenty (G20).
Roberto Campos Neto, president of the Central Bank of Brazil, stated he wants the G20 to consider the benefits of using these currencies for making financial transactions and to work towards adapting rules to take advantage of this.
Sotheby's Announces Auction of Bitcoin-Based 'Bitcoinshrooms' Collection
Sotheby’s, the world’s oldest fine art auction house, recently declared its intention to conduct an auction featuring Bitcoin-based Ordinal inscriptions, marking a first in the auction house’s history.
This online event is set to commence in December at Sotheby’s New York, where an exclusive selection of “Bitcoinshrooms” from the Shroomtoshi’s Ordinals collection will be on display.
Block Bitkey Bitcoin Wallet Comes to Market in More Than 95 Countries
Jack Dorsey's fintech company Block (SQ) has unveiled its self-custody Bitcoin wallet Bitkey for pre-order in more than 95 countries. The wallet is said to consist of a mobile app, a hardware device, and a set of recovery tools. The app allows customers to make Bitcoin transactions via their mobile phone, while the hardware device stores their assets offline.

Binance Founder CZ Must Stay in US Until February Sentencing
Seattle District Court Judge Richard Jones ruled or ordered CZ to stay in the U.S. until his Feb. 23, 2024 sentencing date as he is unlikely to return to the country if allowed to travel to the UAE.
The judge cited that Zhao has favored status in his country of residence and that he has not established by clear and convincing evidence that he is not likely to flee if he returns to the UAE.
The former Binance CEO faces up to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to money laundering on November 21.
