I consider it's nice to have a US President who's less sneaky and announces more the country's plans than the previous White House tenant did. Nevertheless, now that more than 50% of the world's GDP is produced in the "South" (e.g. in the BRICS countries), with the boost that Western sanctions are bringing to the tech sectors of countries like Russia and China, I'm not sure that regaining control on the Panama Canal will change a lot - we're in an increasingly "deglobalized" world.

It would hold strategic military positioning with BRICS rising, Mexico is a threat as there is a clear path into southern U.S.
BRICS makes up 41% of global GDP. China is half of that. The only two BRICS countries in the top 10 are China at 2 (20%) and Brazil at 10 (2.3%). Mexico's biggest trading partner is the U.S. (by far) at half a trillion in exports annually.
