Debasement

Debasement is not just the space below a building (lol), but:

Debase has a special meaning in economics: From time to time, governments find that they need to quietly debase their countries' currency by reducing the percentage of valuable metal in its coins; if they don't, the metal may become more valuable than the coin and people will begin melting the coins down and reselling the metal. source

This commentary from merriam-webster.com seems to defend the practice of currency debasement! A hallmark of a fiat-centric economy is a devaluing currency - allegedly balancing between inflation/unemployment. Keynesian macro-economic theory would have us believe we must always choose between the lesser of two evils: inflation or unemployment. Everyone wants to keep their jobs, so inflation it is!

We're suppose to accept that devaluing fiat currency is only natural and right (to fight unemployment) but ut-oh, silver remains valuable! What must we do? Quietly remove the silver content until we're left with nothing but dross.

This happened very suddenly, quietly without much fanfare, in 1964 when all silver was removed from most circulating coinage 1965 and onwards. Some silver (40%) remained in the half-dollar coin until 1971 until it was completely removed.

Smart families exchanged their paper dollars (or 1965 coins) for silver coins and those who held on to it today has enjoyed inflation-proof money all that time! A $0.25 silver quarter still has the value to purchases a gallon of gasoline, even today!

The Black Horse

The four horsemen of the Revelation (apocalypse) includes the white horse, whose rider conquers, a red (firey) horse whose rider takes away peace from the earth, and a black horse whose rider is holding scales.

I believe that the debasement "correction" is this event recorded in prophecy.

I looked and saw a black horse, and its rider held in his hand a pair of scales. And I heard what sounded like a voice from among the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius."

A "quart" is the greek word "choinix", which would be similar to the modern "dry quart" or 37 oz weight. That's about 2.3 lbs or 1.049 KG

A "denarius" is a small silver Roman coin weighing about 4.5 grams or 0.144 ozt.

On a scale, the ratio would be 233x. We're talking about wheat 233x it's weight in silver!

This 2 ozt silver round is the weight of about 14 denarius and would have the purchasing power to provide 14.5 kg or 32 lbs of wheat.

With rising food prices, what will 32 lbs of wheat be worth? As currency becomes worth less and less, how many fiats will it take to purchase even ONE pound of wheat?
