Seleucid Empire was founded by Seleucus I Nicator. During his reign he issue variety of different coins that reflect the political, artistic and cultural influences of the Hellenistic World. The Era of Seleucus coinage was very famous for its diversity and high quality. It provide the economic and political insights and historical background of Seleucid Empire.
Silver tetradrachm was one of the most common coin in the collection of Seleucus's Coins, this coin was made of silver and it was thick and large in size, it's weight was 17 grams. On the front side of the coin portrait of seleucus wearing a diadem, which was a royal head band was feature and on the other side of the coins, there was Zeus, King of Gods in Greek mythology, holding a Scepter and an eagle.
If we see the history of Seleucus's coins age, there was another coin which was made of Bronze or copper, these coins was smaller in size and they were also thinner than the tetradrachm. There diameter was 19mm and 22mm in which they were issued. These coins Includes coins Which are AE19 and AE22. On the front of these coins you can see the portrait of Seleucus or his family members and on the other side of the coins you can see the Various Greek and eastern deities such as Apollo, Heracles and Athena.
These coins were not only artistic objects, they played an important role in the communication and propaganda. The pictures engraved on these coins were their to give message about Power of Seleucus's empire, and it's policies and legitimacy.
