It is worth noting that the discovery of all the Technologies in a given branch gives us a +1% bonus to the population.
There is no bonus for the discovery (although it is good idea to unlock the full branch as Level 5 stuff tends to be the juicest). The +1% population bonus kicks in when you own all the tech cards for one branch (IIRC, owning one of the Mining Operations is sufficient).
Oh dear, sorry for the mistake. I've written unlock and discovery so many times that I've gotten myself twisted in the nomenclature. Thank you so much for correcting me, I'm already changing it.
