The cost of the packs looks quite expensive and I don't really know if I will buy many rebellion packs or not. Maybe I'll go for just 100 packs and open them up. If I don't sell any of the cards, I will still qualify for the future airdrops right?

Yes the mechanism of airdrops will be different from previous ones, and unsold cards and unsold parcels will be used to have more chances in airdrops that will start with the general sale
