I don't think Uniswap was directly aiming at CUB but rather to retain their market share. They were one of the first to adopt their liquidity pool model but the competitors are eating into their shares. They understand that the entire market is in its early stage and they need to put incentives for people to join in.
Personally I think Uniswap being on ETH blocks it from gaining the small players and thus the money for more applications is probably an idea to lure in more bigger players. I think the competition is good because it provides a way for the space to develop faster and the benefits are better for the consumer. The only problem I see is that anyone can spin one out by copying open source code and they can promise ridiculous returns but end up becoming an exit scam.

This is true but that is the risk we play when we invest and need to ensure we are getting on board with actual committed projects. It's what limited me from buying in but kept me here on Hive/Leo and now CUB. It is why I bought more Hive today at $AUD.95c.
