In a chat with a lad a few weeks ago, he mentioned that Splinterlands as the company isn't decentralized, my response was that Splinterlands is a company built on a decentralized blockchain, Hive.
This article helps in looking at what is meant to be decentralized and not. With Hive as long as no entity can fiddle with my wallet or shut down my account it means decentralization to me which am pleased with.

The company and game arent on the blockchain. However, the assets and account are tied to Hive (or Hive Engine). That means people have options outside of just being on the game.
