From what I have picked up when scammers decide to try their luck with me, they tend to happen in numbers on the same day or a few days apart.
Having been a victim of scammers in the past I am not quickly sold on the high-yield investments they often sell to their potential prey. though I don't immediately scold them off I like to give a listening to get a glimpse of where it is heading before I use the block button. Make no mistake, I am quick to block but I like having a bit of a reason to do that.
So it was the 17th of April, and I had text messages from WhatsApp and Telegram from unknown contacts.
The WhatsApp Message
I'm U-FARM Project Manager. Currently, we need to recruit some part-time employees to do more online business. The age requirement is 22 years old and above. You can work with your mobile phone for 30-60 minutes a day. You can earn 400-800 rand a day, and you will be paid on the same day. The work is simple and easy to complete, and there are special people responsible for guiding you to complete the work. Want to know more, please add a tutor
Above is the message from the "Project Manager" without the courtesy of properly introducing him or herself.
Who are you, please?
Where are you texting from and how did you get my numbers?
Above was my response and this 'Project Manager" ignored my questions, furthermore s/he sent me the contact of my "tutor". That for me prompted the use of the block button.
The text message was from a Kenyan cellphone number with +254 and my supposed tutor was from South Africa with +27.
All of this conversation transpired within 5 minutes which was more than enough of my attention to some scammer trying their luck with me.
The Telegram Message
The Telegram conversation was rather abrupt and this time I was the one blocked so I can't share the conversation.
I was contacted with an exchange of greetings, I am from the city of Chicago she said and she asked where I am from, just to fool around I said I am from Lagos and that was more than enough for her to hit the block button.
I expected a response before I knew it this lady from the city of Chicago had blocked me just by being a Lagosian.
It made my day, I couldn't stop laughing that I have discovered a way to get blocked with a twinkle of an eye.
It is saddening to see that people are on a mission to scam others in these tough times when finances are tough with most serving on a tight budget.
Just tell them you are from Lagos, Nigeria when next you get a text message from some random Telegram users and you are not in the mood to entertain them, it worked like a charm in getting me blocked.
We owe it to ourselves to make Hive great

I must tell you that these guys are getting better. I had bank issues about a month ago and reported to my bank online and these guys texted me pretending to be my bank. But I raised my eyebrows when they asked me to fill a form with my pin. They succeed in duping a lot of people. International scammers however knows that it's difficult to scam Lagosians.
Crazy stuff, most would have fallen for the trap and provided them with their pin. Though if one pays attention there is lack of professionalism they exhibit that makes one spot they are scammers.
Lagosians are no joke lol.

Am laughing so hard at this story, over the years people have come to associate Lagos with scamming but nowadays they are everywhere. That one using +254 claiming to be South African is still a learner. Most times I don't respond to suspect messages but now I too will be saying am from Lagos.
Thank you for sharing and do enjoy your Wednesday ahead :}
Hahaha, I don't understand how they are pulling off the +254 and +27, my thinking is they are probably a team working together located in both countries. S/he was so unprofessional I could tell it was a scam building up.
Lol, you are from Lagos bro, never mention Nairobi.

Truly the lady knows a thing or two about Lagos, which made her block me immediately. We have to be careful and alert at all times online.

By now scammers are everywhere and use all kinds of means and systems; next time I'll try to tell him I'm from Lagos, he'll try to say you're from Reggio Calabria in Italy, maybe we'll get the same result heh heh!
A hug!

Lol try it, I bet it might work as it did for me.
Crazy that they rather choose to use their talent to scam people instead of channeling it into something better.

Yes, in fact, also because some scammers really have a talent that if they used it for other things it would lead them to great results.

I'll definitely try that when I happen to come across one again. It must be the great reputation that Nigeria has. They can't mess with people who know the game better than them.
These scammers are always out here tricking people with their alluring messages that are always too good to be true.
Lol great reputation indeed, don't mess with a Nigerian kind of situation. Give it a try and you will have such a nice laugh if it works.

There are a lot of scammers out there and I think they are trying to fish for the people with money. I think when they heard Lagos, it was a place without too much wealth for them to scam and it wouldn't be worth the effort. I could be wrong though.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Hahaha, it is more of associating Lagos with scammers, so Lagosians could prove tough to crack and it could also be like you said.
We have to be alert and careful, these scammers are all over the place on the internet.
