2/🧵 The hostile encounters of pre-puberty, such as bullying, abuse, rejection, or mistreatment by parents, can make you feel inadequate. These situations can test you and prevent you from accepting that you don't deserve the admiration and support of others.

Going out with someone after being poorly treated by friends, family, coworkers, or partners can make it hard to trust others. Even worse, it can be hard to trust your gut when deciding if others are trustworthy.

3/🧵 We are often told to value things like honors, awards, and gifts more than things like hard work and dedication. Because you're counting on other people's approval to feel good about yourself, this focus on outside sources of inspiration can make it hard to build up your strengths.

Society often praises impossible standards of greatness and outlandish ways of living. When you compare yourself to these silly standards, it can make you feel bad about yourself.

4/🧵 If you're shaky, you might feel less sure of yourself and less willing to take on tasks at work. These things can keep you from taking chances and going after the great open doors you need.

You may also be more sensitive to criticism because of your doubts, making it hard to accept helpful feedback. It can make it hard to do well at work because you might focus on what you could be doing better instead of using your energy to move up.
