Elon Musk is in a very weird position right now and if you're as big as he is globally chances are you'll fall into the same shit.
We know his companies rake in billions from the U.S. government and yet the same person has deep business ties with China, which is considered enemy country to U.S That alone wouldn’t be shocking because there's plenty of corporations that do the same thing.
The problem comes from when the man in question also visits the Pentagon for briefings on China, that's when things get a little messy.
Trump openly made a statement about Elon Musk's ties to China. He said Musk’s ties to China make him susceptible as a businessman. Susceptible is a very strong word to use.
Tesla’s Gigafactory in Shanghai is the company’s biggest production hub and China remains a crucial market for Tesla's success.
At the same time, SpaceX holds over $22 billion in federal contracts, making that company too necessary in U.S national security.
We got ourselves a contraction. This dual allegiance isn't illegal, but it will raise eyebrows all over Elon Musk. When you have a businessman with this much access to both American military interests and Chinese markets, that oredicam is almost bound to trigger concerns for both parties but especially the U.S government.
Some people just like myself think Musk is only playing both sides for profit, but there are hose that believe he’s a visionary and handling global politics like some kind of chessboard.
The Pentagon visit he had just made it all worse. Was he there for classified information? The White House says no he wasn't.
Elon Musk himself brushed off these questions, and the answer he gave the reporters was "Why should I tell you?" A response like that alone speaks volumes. If he had nothing controversial to hide, why not just clarify?
Critics, like Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, think he shouldn’t have been there at all and I have to agree with the Senator. Her opinion is as simple as this, billionaires shouldn’t have this kind of influence, period.
Who knows, maybe Elon Musk genuinely wants to help the U.S. stay ahead or maybe he’s just keeping himself in the room where big decisions happen to make sure he's always at an advantage. Anyhow you think about it, his access to power is undeniable.
