It's been more than 30 years since rock music was still important and had great relevance. Artists were not pop bunnies who sang with computer voices, but stars with guitars, poets, explainers of the world.

We are looking back in a series. Today we have a look at "The Iron Lung", a forgotten EP made by Radiohead.

Since their debut work "Pablo Honey" and the hit "Creep", Radiohead are no longer England's best-kept rock secret. With the mini-album "The Iron Lung" the quintet remains: Thom Yorke (vocals, rhythm guitar, piano), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboard, Ondes Martenot), Colin Greenwood (electric bass, keyboard), Ed O' Brien (guitar, background vocals) in the wake of "Pablo Honey".

In the seven new pieces, acoustic passages and eruptive feedback outbursts alternate as usual in a stylish manner, while Yorke sings about mostly quite dark topics in a fragile, constantly shifting voice that gives you goosebumps. With the "Unplugged" version of "Creep", which has so far only been released as a single, Radiohead's second also achieves the class goal.not a milestone in rock history, but a foreshadowing of great things to come. Later, Radiohead will release "OK Compunter" and The Bends" and saw scratchy avant-garde out of widescreen guitar rock. Here they still try out the sadness like in the best "Creep" times.

But the ease with which the Radiohead musicians in the days of "The Bends" and "OK Computer" married intellectual claims to explaining the world and heart-blooded chord progressions is just a suggestion. The beautiful should be dirty and the light should be difficult, "I'm a creep" is what Thom Yorke says, and no one who wouldn't want to stroke his head.

Nobody could have imagined that this small band would one day become one of the largest and most original...
