I've spent most of my life using Windows, but when I had to buy a new laptop we decided I'm not paying any more money to Bill Gates so we installed Ubuntu. I'm not technical in any way, but I must say I don't even remember Windows now, nor do I miss it, although I did have trouble getting a media player.
I felt like Jim Carry at the end of the Truman show when he escaped when I got on Linux. Windows is like a prison.
Trouble getting a media player? As in one that would work, or you couldn't choose because there was too many?
Or are you talking about the DVD debacle?
Or getting your sound card to work with linux?
A media player. For some reason, it won't let me install anything. I did manage to get VLC, but I don't use it much anyway as we have an older laptop for downloaded movies :)
for the actual installation, you often have to be in Super User. (command su)
Else you only have access to your home directory.
VLC is pretty good for most things.
