The json file downloaded is not a text file with the keys.
Tell your referrals to follow the sign up flow and copy the seed phrase and the hive keys. If they skip copying the Hive keys they can still get them, but if they skip both the seed phrase and they Hive keys, there is no way to recover
Check the original thread, I leave a comment about how to get the active key for the account.
