What Is GHAWG?
#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.

| As I was turning all shades of red from the chicken, Lionel & The Twins were deep in talk of the upcoming NBA season. I wasn't going to interrupt them, so I began to nurse the beers I ordered. "Rhonda?" "Yes?" "You drive." |

| ποΈΒ By this point in the dinner, David Guardia had already written off the night as a lost cause for himself. As a result, he did the one thing he would normally not do: drink alcohol. He tried to keep a low profile as best as he could, this is why he was nursing multiple beers. ποΈΒ Unlike my own situation as I noted in the previous Weekly Summary post, David had it much easier. He was able to melt into the background after his initial display of redness. Given the amount of ber he was consuming, he knew he was in trouble as a motorist. He relied on his wife to get him back to their lodging safely. |

| Back at Econo Lodge, Rhonda could see how embarrased I was, almost vulnerable. Then she noticed something on my head. "Honey?" "Yes, dear?" "You should start letting your hair grow." Something good came out of that dinner! |

| ποΈΒ For someone acknowledged to be leader of a group of people due to the example he had set for everyone else, this night was perhaps his worst as a leader of people. While it's true that everyone fails, this was a case of utter embarrassment. It was bad enough that David Guardia was questioning his ability to lead the group of people we know as Our Heroes. Rhonda Bella Guardia knew this was eating at David, and she did her best to get her husband to stop wallowing in self-pity. ποΈΒ For as long as she had known him, he was in the habit of keeping his head shaved smooth. Like most bald men, David had multiple reasons for keeping his head shaved. One reason was the advancing hairline which caused him to begin shaving his head in the first place. On this night, she noticed something different about him, and her attention was drawn to where "peach fuzz" was growing on his head. Without realizing how it happened, it turns out that among the physiological upgrades he received while he was in his 10-day coma, another such upgrade was the full restoration of his hair growth. Unlike with the more obvious upgrade he noticed on the first night of their honeymoon, this upgrade was less obvious because he never had a chance to let the hair grow. Thanks to Rhonda's suggestion, now he can. |

| ποΈΒ Even knowing this detour would cost them extra time (and fuel), they had all agreed to ride along Old Route 66. The all wanted to have the Route 66 Experience, even if they were riding west from Los Angeles (or, as the song lyrics state, from "L. A.") to east toward Chicago. |

| The half-mile trip from Needles, California into Arizona turned into a nearly 18-mile detour. Old Route 66 tracked I-40. As soon as we crossed the Colorado River into Arizona we took Oatman Highway north into Golden Shores. |

| ποΈΒ This zapfic entry was written to show how much the detour taken to keep on Old Route 66 would cost them in distance, fuel, and time. ποΈΒ There's nothing special about Golden Shores itself other than the fact that it's on the path tracked by Old Route 66. What makes this detail interesting is instead how it easy it was for Autocorrect to get wrong in some cases. Depending on how some people use their mobile devices or AI-powered spellcheckers, there's a good chance that Autocorrect would have turned Golden Shores into Golden Showers. For people who type too quickly for their own good, it took no effort to add one letter and transpose two others to end up with S-H-O-W-E-R-S instead of the intended S-H-O-R-E-S. |

| When we hit Powell Lake Rd we rode west until it turned into S. Shore Parkway and into Topock. We took Oatman Hwy through the desert to the town of Oatman. At Prescription Rd we switched to Historic Route 66 to reach Kingman. |

ποΈΒ Kingman is one of the last places mentioned in the lyrics to the song "(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66" (Kingman, Barstow, San Bernardino...). It's also the last Arizona place named in the song. Historic Route 66 is the actual name of the stretch of road which had once been part of the iconic Route 66 from earlier times. |

Our Heroes ride into first Flagstaff, Arizona, US and then make a detour into Winona 16 miles further. While in Winona for a brief time where wasn't much to see, but David and Rhonda Bella Guardia shared an unspoken moment together. It's as if they had both heard an unspoken prophecy meant just for them.
