What Is GHAWG?

#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.

More details can be found in the first post of this weekly recap.

3️⃣6️⃣9️⃣ 2024-February-24 18:23:03

East of Ash Fork, our stretch of Interstate 40 was at times the Purple Hear Trail & Historic Route 66. Near McClelland Lake we branched off onto Fire Road 186 since it lead to a road named Old Route 66. This took us back to I40.
🏍️ This zapfic entry is the best example of the challenge in trying to determine the path which best approximates that defined by Route 66 in the days before the legislation creating the Eisenhower Interstate System was signed into law on 1956-June-29.

3️⃣7️⃣0️⃣ 2024-February-25 15:18:39

On reaching Best Western Plus Inn of Williams, Route 66 branched off I40. This took us past Williams. Near Bearizona Sign we returned to I40. We passed by Parks & Bellemont before reaching Flagstaff, where we rested for the day.
🏍️ Flagstaff is one of the Arizona towns mentioned by name in the song "(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66," and it's one of the major cities in the state of Arizona. About 16 miles east of Flagstaff is Winona, the town included in the song almost as a throwaway lyric ("Flagstaff, Arizona / Don't forget Winona").

3️⃣7️⃣1️⃣ 2024-February-26 00:03:57

We could have kept riding until reaching Winona, but Flagstaff is the largest city we've seen leaving San Bernardino. So we refuled our rides and our bodies here. For one night, we called the Super 8 by Wyndham Flagstaff home.
🏍️ In some of the languages spoken by Native Americans, especially those related to the Lakota in North and South Dakota, the name "Winona" means first daughter. Of women whose name is Winona (or a variant of it), the most famous ones I know about are actress Winona Ryder and singer Wynonna Judd.

3️⃣7️⃣2️⃣ 2024-February-27 17:49:48

Just to break the routine, we went bowling at Starlite Lanes. Hank & Frank taught The Kids how to grip & throw a bowling ball. It took them a while to get used to it, and it showed in their scores. At the end, The Kids beat us.
🏍️ Given what we know about each of these characters-- David Guardia, former motorcycle courier and current prophet for The Lord; Rhonda Bella Guardia, independent trucker; Hank & Frank Marchenko, anarcho-capitalists and motorcycle gearheads on the edge; Sanjay Rampersad, foreign exchange student from India at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Lionel Odunsi, another foreign exchange student from Nigeria at UNC; and Lindsay Etxeberria, refugee from far-left activism-- this seemed like the most incongruous thing any of them would be doing, bowling for fun. This incongruity is exactly why I had written this zapfic entry.

3️⃣7️⃣3️⃣ 2024-February-28 08:36:48

Next day we took US Route 66 up to Walking Cane Ranch, where we switched onto Townsend Winona Road in order to reach Winona. We made the right call in stopping at Flagstaff. However, stopped riding to visit Winona Trading Post.
🏍️ The trip to Winona wasn't what anyone had expected it to be. There wasn't much to see there. However, Winona was important enough to be included in the song lyrics, and that fact alone was enough reason for the town to find a second life as a tourist attraction associated with the iconic road of legend, Route 66.

3️⃣7️⃣4️⃣ 2024-February-29 00:18:39

As a destination, Winona was just some place among many other some places. However, once we were at Winona Trading Post both Rhonda and I felt the place calling to us. When we both realized this, we squeezed each other's hands.
🏍️ Despite the way I've been describing Winona, Arizona, US in these zapfic entries, there was something unseen and attractive which appealed to both David and Rhonda Bella Guardia. This will not be the last time Winona appears in zapfic.

3️⃣7️⃣5️⃣ 2024-March-01 00:05:33

After we did the tourist thing in Winona, we continued our ride to Joseph City. Just before reaching Joseph City proper we stopped at Jack Rabbit Trading Post. We took pictures with the giant jack rabbit and Volkswagen Rabbit.
🏍️ This zapfic entry is exactly what it sounds like: tourism. Especially in the western half of Old Route 66, there are many tourist attractions and sites promoting and commemorating the legendary Route 66. Jack Rabbit Trading Post, with both a giant jack rabbit and a giant Volkswagen Rabbit vehicle, is one such attraction.

Zapfic Entries 376-389

Our Heroes are a short distance away from the Arizona-New Mexico state lines when Hank Marchenko discovers a "Bitcoin" ATM in near Lupton, Arizona. What takes place only lasts a short time in real-time, but this sequence of zapfic entries taken together will be called "Cryptocurrency 101" for the benefit of Lindsay Etxeberria.

At LeoThreads

With "Cryptocurrency 101" behind them, Our Heroes enter New Mexico to ride toward Gallup.

At this point, the Weekly Summaries will have caught up with the daily zapfic entries.
