This reminds me of the <span> and <div> elements from HTML. By themselves, they don't do anything. The magic happens when they contain attributes such as style=, class= or id=. It's these attributes which give SPAN and DIV characteristics normally found in other elements or CSS formatting.
dApps do this for Hive blockchain, whether it's at Layer 1 (Ecency, PeakD, Hive.Blog) or at Layer 2 (LeoFinance, Splinterlands, dCrops, LikeTu, ...) Hive the blockchain provides a place where hooks can be attached to bring the dApps to life.
