Coins Unwanted

Or that is the signal. Out of all the fiat money, metal coins are probably the only thing with some percentage of solid value attached. Some sort of value remains even if the currency itself has no longer any purchasing power.

But it turns out convenience is a greater factor and...you're signaled to not deposit your coins in the bank.

So, during the last couple of weeks, I exchanged coins from the firm with my personal paper bills before depositing. I assembled quite a stack quite quickly. I've got some metal on me, now. I can't bring it with me since it would make any summer clothing look pretty strange, tear apart, or just sag awkwardly. Plus, it's a weight, all right.

But I'll be spending those little by little at their top value. See if I don't.

Coinstacking s.jpg
Bulgarian Lev coins approximately the worth of 250 Euro.

And with the country rushing to the perhaps sick and dying Euro zone (that might not be the case but just in case...) withing the next eighteen to nineteen months, I have a deadline before being forced to turn them in. To the bank, again. No, thanks.

So, the banks keep six percent (yup, that's 6 %) of the sum deposited when in coins. Because they have to count them one by one? No scales or any other inventive method? Anyway, it's not the amount of coins, it's the sum. They have to count one hundred 0.01 pennies (one of those is called a Stotinka, from Sto — the word for One Hundred or A Hundred) the same as they have to count one hundred 2.00 BGN coins. Still, the commission is based on the sum.

I am almost happily leaving them the pennies.

The sums might be pretty small and the inconvenience not worth it saving 3 Euros per each 50 Euros that you deposit but still...with my current mindset, 6 % for nothing (and chicks for free) is kind of insulting. Mildly.

Now, what am I going to spend these on and still not be screwed because I just spent them?

Well, daily food payments, coffee, etc. are the expenses I have either way. But also, if I want to invest those, I still have a plan.

Seeds

A bag of seeds is worth about a single coin, currently. And it produces a bucket or two of your vegetables of choice, for instance.

Besides, they say seeds can turn quite valuable in case of inflationary madness. Which seems quite close or has already started — hard to tell until it's already too late. Nasty already — yes. Mad? Not...just yet.

Firepower

I mean...matchboxes. One coin of these buys 20 to 40 matchboxes.

Ammo

They ARE ammo. Just give them the proper velocity.

Who knows? Coin guns might become a popular thing.

Or I can try and forge a sword or a hoe out of these

Still, Nuka Cola Caps are lighter to carry thus more convenient.

Peace and Prosperity!

Yours,

Manol
