The United States consumes 19.78 million of barrels of petroleum every day (including 1 million bpd of biofuels). Of all the petroleum products, gasoline is the most consumed one, about 44% of the share. Distillate fuel oil (diesel and heating oil) is the next one with 20%. Hydrocarbon gas liquids (HGLs) is the third most-used category of petroleum in the United States. It includes propane, ethane, butane, and other HGLs that are produced at natural gas processing plants and oil refineries. Total consumption of HGLs in 2021 is about 17% of total petroleum consumption. The next important category is jet fuel (kerosene), with about 7% of the total. All these add to up to 89%.

Other sources account for the remaining 11%
