Interview with someone who didn’t truly believe in crypto but took a chance!

Me: Good afternoon, how are you on this lovely rainy day?

HS: I’m good, I’m…. chillen. I spent some time in my bed and now I’m sipping on a coffee, trying to get caffeinated ya know. I love rainy days. I don’t feel so bad about chillen in my bed. Which is what I did this morning.

Me: Sounds like a lovely morning. How is your coffee? Someone get that for ya?

HS: Delicious! My sister got me this double espresso and I made it into a hazelnut latte.

Me: Sounds amazing. So, can you tell me a little bit about what you do for work? You are working, right?

HS: Oh um, what do I do for work? Ya know, I just woke up so I’m trying to get my thoughts together. I work for my dad at a law firm and I (long pause) do all aspects of title work.

Me: Now when you say you do all aspects of title work, could you elaborate? What does that look like?

HS: Sometimes I order the title work; we need to get the commitment in and the abstract so I can put together the current dead and closing protection letter, the CD which are the fees, and send that information to the lenders of the purchase or refinance.

Me: SO, would you say you know a lot about real estate?

HS: No (laughter)

Me: Well, you must know a little something about it.

HS: Ummm, I guess it depends. Can you be more specific?

Me: Yes, well hmmm do you know about the basics of what buying a house looks like or the process? Or are you just dealing with most of the paperwork?

HS: I am mostly dealing with paperwork, I don’t really talk to the borrowers, buyers, or sellers but I do know that to start the process you need a purchase and sales agreement or a title request from the lender. (Chuckles and long pause) Or both. Sometimes both.

Me: Do you find this kind of work interesting?

HS: (squints eyes and makes a funny face) NO… Umm more so repetitive. It’s a repetitive process. Every time it’s the same. The only times it’s ever different is if um there are issues with like the owner’s name on the deed.

Me: I see. So is this something that you want to do long term or what are you thinking---

HS: What I’m thinking is I’m just gonna take it day by day.

Me: Well, what I mean by that is umm what are your other financial goals, I guess. Let’s turn this around…

HS: Well, that’s funny because I wouldn’t really say I have any financial goals but I did just put money into crypto. I did just put basically 80% of my savings into crypto. I think for me as long as I am building the money that I am saving I feel secure.

Me: Okay well let me ask you this, should’ve asked this first, but do you feel like you are making some decent money with this job?

HS: Yes, because it is the first raise, I have ever gotten and on top of having hours in the office which usually amount to 20-28 hours a week. I am also doing recordings which are like courier service for the office so the two together have helped me build my savings.

Me: Do you think that putting your monies into crypto instead of a traditional savings account is beneficial? What are your thoughts on crypto vs savings?

HS: I do think it’s beneficial because the money that sits in your bank account decreases over time, as in the value of it, but if it’s sitting in crypto it will grow over a period of time instead of just sitting in your bank account and doing the opposite. And I feel like crypto might be the new currency in the future.

Me: Can I ask how old you?

Hs: I’m 23.

Me: You are pretty young and fresh out of school?

Hs: No not fresh I graduated 2 years ago.

Me: Did you learn about crypto in school, from fellow peers, your family?

HS: I learned about crypto from my dad.

Me: And when you first learned about crypto, what were you thinking?

HS: I was really hesitant for a while I didn’t put any of my money into it because I didn’t like the fact that I felt like it was kind of disappearing into a void but that’s silly because it’s no different than your bank account. I was also hesitant because it’s risky. Does anyone really know the future of crypto? It seems like a little bit of a gamble. But I feel like I’m up to date by buying crypto at this point.

Me: Yes, you feel like it’s something that everyone is getting on board with.

HS: Yes

Me: Since buying it, which by the way, what did you buy?

HS: Ethereum. I don’t really understand why you have to buy a variety why can’t you just stick to one? I don’t get why there are so many different kinds.

Me: Yeah, umm from my understanding they all operate pretty much the same but some you can mine and others take up more energy and not everyone will take every coin so sometimes it’s good to have a little variety just in case. I personally have Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Doge but I was looking into the Cardano one because that one is more eco-friendly than the other one because there is no mining involved and so it takes up less energy which is better for the environment. But I still don’t really understand the mining and energy it takes. So, when buying do you take that into consideration, or are you just buying based on what your dad is saying.

HS: Well, I first went with Ethereum because it was something that I could afford to buy more than one of at the time and I feel like I’m just holding it to sell it in the future. So, I don’t feel like I need a variety because I’m just holding it long-term so the value increases.

Me: That’s kind of my strategy, I buy to forget, and hopefully down the road it increases!

HS: Another thing I considered when I bought Ethereum is that it’s not like a retirement account like Schwab (Roth IRA) so if I needed the money, I could sell it, I wouldn’t have to wait to obtain the money.

Me: This is true. You want that control over your money. Makes sense. So, by this time, June, next year what are your predictions for your Ethereum account? Assuming you don’t touch it right now.

HS: I really haven’t done any calculations and I haven’t really followed its past patterns so I would just have to guess and say maybe by then it will possibly have tripled? Maybe that’s a lot. I haven’t really thought about it.

Me: Well just give me a hopeful number!

HS: By next June Ethereum will be worth at least 4,500 dollars but probably more by then.

Me: Alright well we will just have to wait and see! Stay tuned. Thanks for this little crypto chat. I wish you luck!

HS: Thank you.
