Here's how to make real world purchases with Terra's stable coin UST

For many people around the world awaiting mainstream adoption to enable them to make purchases in their favoured cryptocurrency, the wait appears to be taking a very long time.

But not all Cryptos are equal some are already charging a head and achieving mainstream adoption with one of those crypto's being Terra (Luna) Networks favoured stable coin $UST.

Now if you're in South Korea and many South East Asian nations you can already access a number of debit card systems which you can load up with UST and go shopping which has been quite successful.

For me in Australia the laws are quite chill and I am able to transfer my crypto out and exchange it for my fiat and in a matter of about 20minutes it will be in my bank account ready to go shopping.

However, this process is quite intensive and requires a number of transfers and the reliance on centralised exchanges which charge more fees than a bank! than there is tax so keeping track can be quite hard.

TAXES

There are a number of tax concessions and exemptions for things but you really need to enlist the support of a good tax agent otherwise you can find yourself in hot water. A good tax agent in the sector is hard to find as Crypto is an ever evolving industry and so too are the laws that govern it, if you have them.

But what if there was an easier way to do so? For instance a way to spend your Crypto at stores without all the required messy transactions. It wont mitigate the tax requirement as in life you're only promised two things, Death and Taxes.

Terra Cards

Terra Cards has been building a system to remove the complex exchanges and time consuming transfers and now allows you to spend your hard earned UST in 26 nations in over 300 stores!

Not only does Terra Cards enable you to spend in your own country but you can shop around in other nations to see if you can get a better deal! I remember many friends who would fly to America pre pandemic to buy a pair of shoes because they would be the first to own them as Australia tends to be behind in seasons so we get all the left over stock after everyone else.

Terra Gift Cards

Now it isn't entirely a load up a debit card and go kind of thing and revolves around purchasing gift cards but it is still a step in the right direction.

Although gift cards do serve a pretty good purpose and should be utilised by many people when making purchases because they enable you to be more fiscally responsible and are less likely to be heckled by store staff.

We have all been there, you walk into a shop only to buy a pair of shoes or jeans and the store clerk automatically starts trying to sell you more items. That's because they tend to get bonus' for "multis". A Multi is the extra additional item they sell you on top of your primary purchase.

This is why they tend to always scan the most expensive thing first and then work their way down to the cheapest item. So now you have a pair of shoes and you've picked up a pair of socks, singlet and a T-Shirt even a reversible belt. You've also eaten into your personal budget for the month.

The Solution to your problem

How do you get around this? That's the easy part as a store clerk is less likely to heckle you if you have a gift card because gift cards are often used as birthday or celebration gifts so don't tend to have the same amount of money or access to the same amount of money as a personal debit card.

So when you start getting heckled just say "Oh I only have a gift card" and watch them back off. Some will say "That's ok I can check how much is on it" but you can just decline, I find that a bit rude. Who checks someone's personal financial position?

For a full list of nations and accepted stores visit Terra Cards and if you end up using it, why not swing past and let us know how you went.

Does purse.io work there?
I've had good luck with them.

If it's just a gift card, then I don't see much pushback. Of course, I think it might be a very profitable venture because there are a lot of gift cards that end up not being used. I guess it might open up another market but do you think it will be similar to amazon gift cards where the value of the card will be less than the value on the card?

Thats shit, can't do that here in Australia. Good question and I'm not too sure to be honest.
