If you’re like me and the most interesting game you’ve played falls into the bracket of first person shooters like C.o.d, Far Cry, or even GTA or let’s assume car racings like Need For Speed are your go to types of games, one thing we all have to agree to is that most of those games have been around for years, they only get iterated upon with new stories, but it gets to that point where they all begin to feel boring, especially when you realize that there’s a world of gaming where your in game items come alive.

Come alive in the sense that you own them on record, not just on the games server but recorded on an immutable ledger that actually proves that the item belongs to you, come alive in the sense that the item is truly valuable based on its use case and rarity, come alive in the sense that it is tradeable in an open market, so whatever time you spent acquiring it, crafting it or mining it does not go to waste. This was part of the possibilities that I saw in Splinterlands and if it intrigues you too, then after reading this post you may just have gotten red pilled.

Get ready to battle

So after 5 years as an average investor and hardened(lol if there’s anything like that) Splinterlands gamer, here are my few bits of advice that will keep you going as it did for me over time. First, understand the game and get ready to fight against people with more knowledge, resources and experience than yourself. The game is unlike the FPS games you’re used to where you battle with computer programs all day, Splinterlands is a tradeable card game, people have valuable investment here and are seeking to either grow it or keep it from going under, so while everyone is having fun or trying to, some are pretty serious about it, serious fun, if you may.

As an average investor or player watch out for….

As an average investor, to get acquainted with battles you need to have cards, you may rent them off the market, or ask the community for scholarships where someone might be willing to let you play their cards for a cut of the rewards you make, you can then use your rewards to rent cards for yourself and work your way up the ranks till you’re able to buy your own cards. If you’re an investor with some money in the bag, you don’t need scholarships, but I’ll strongly advice you rent cards for the first few weeks to get conversant with them before picking your buys.

Have fun growing

As a new player, your goal should be growth besides fun, a well balanced growth involves growing ones stake in the game, that is, growing ones holding of the SPS token which is the governance token of the game, doing this ensures one is participating in the governance matters that shapes the future of the game. This can be done by either directly buying sps off the market and staking or by winning lots of games, tournaments and brawls. Growing also involved building one’s deck of cards. When I first started to play, I had favorite Splinters and thought concentrating my growth there was the ultimate strategy, I later realized that having a balanced deck of cards in all Splinters was the way to go. When in doubt of what card to buy, hit the rental market to try it out.

Explore everything

Unlike me, ensure you explore everything as you go, I was super hooked on Modern and Wild battles that I totally neglected Brawling for over a year, missing out on those juicy brawling rewards, rent cards to enter into tournaments, you may just get lucky. Splinterlands is unlike any other game you’ve ever played. It’s about strategy, adventure, community and exploring the entire space, also ensure to document your progress and share your ideas, findings and worries with the community through participation in the weekly writing or art prompts, there’s also a great deal of information to learn from other peoples strategies, join Discord channels, forums, town hall meetings, Twitter campaigns, I bet you that the community is always willing to suppo. What else? Battle till you drop!
