It helps if you are qualified as or can do something that has fallen out of favor. Companies are desperate to get certain types of workers and no one is able to do it anymore. No one is willing either.
One example in the computer field:
No one knows COBOL anymore. No new programmers want to learn COBOL (and it would probably not be wise).
No one wants to use COBOL anymore, but many are stuck with it and desperate for help to transition away. One can get hired as a COBOL programmer for decent money even though it is a "dead language". One could even name their price basically as an independent contractor if they find someone desperate enough.
Whenever someone desperate is found though the conditions at that kind of work are often stressful and high hours. There are usually good reasons why they are desperate to find someone. Either the company sucks, or the nature of the work sucks. 🤣
Find something no one else wants to do and get really good at it! 🤣
