RE: How Savings Give Your Life a Lift

in LeoFinance4 years ago

Here in Germany, the banks made a big thing of it starting in the Wirtschaftswunder-Zeit. When I was born, my parents were gifted three saving accounts with 5 Deutschmarks in it from local banks for me - they hoped to get customers for life that way ;)

Every World Savings Day was like a children's holiday: you went to the bank with a parent and your piggy bank. They had a big machine to count coins in the main bank hall, the piggy was "slaughtered" and the coins were put in the machine where everything rattled and moved till all coins fell into the right slots. It was a bit like a pinball game and I loved it as a child ;)

Afterwards the amount was entered into your savings book, you got some small gifts and then you went home proudly because you had saved soooo much. Here is a picture from the 60s where they had a special counter for kids for that occasion. And here you can see it's still done today, that was 2018.
