Axie Infinity went through significant changes last week. Axie Infinity V2 will no longer pay SLP to players for winning their matches, this will SEVERELY reduce the amount of SLP printed daily. Players that wish to keep earning will have to switch over to Axie Infinity Origin and start to climb the ranked ladder from the bottom. The first few ranks only reward moon shards for winning and SLP rewards only start once players reach the Boar IV rank.
Burning SLP
The Sky Mavis team finally introduced a much needed extra burning mechanism to the SLP token! In order to craft certain types of Runes and charms, players will have to burn SLP.
Runes and charms are crucial to improving your Axies and their attacks. You will not be able to climb the ranking leader without crafting and equipping some decent Runes and Charms.
Players will also have the option to turn their Runes and Charms into NFTS so that they can sell them on the market. Doing so will also have some cost to the players.
There will be a lot of incentives for players to spend SLP crafting to try to get valuable Runes and Charms to later sell on the market.
Some runes and charms become useless after the season is over. Once the new season starts players will have to burn SLP once again to get new Runes and Charms, this season resets add some long-term sustainability to the SLP price. There are some runes that you will be able to use forever, across multiple seasons but I'm not very familiar with the inner workings of Runes and Charms yet.
Future of Axie
Sky Mavis mentioned that there will be some additional burning mechanisms, one of them is the possibility to upgrade axie's body parts using SLP. We still need more details about what the team is planning but it is very comforting to see them address the oversupply of SLP issue that is destroying the game.
Good tokenomics is crucial for any project but so is having a good and enjoyable game. I've been playing Axie Infinity Origin for the past few days and I can't get enough of it! In fact, I liked it so much I decided to buy some new axies so that I can be more competitive. The gameplay is way better than the previous version of axie and that will make a lot of people come back to the game and reinvest into new axies just like I did. It also helps incentivize old players to stay around by keeping things fresh and evolving.
Players can now start playing axie infinity completely for free, just to try out the game and see how they like it. Earning with a free-to-play account is also possible but it is very limited. I recommend everyone who likes play2earn to give Axie infinity a try!

Regardless of the updates, I don't think I'd ever want to go into Axie Infinity again. That game is designed to torture its players even after investing a lot of money.
Those guild owners are no better. The stress involved isn't from this world.. haha.

The good part is that nowadays axies are very cheap so you don't have to spend a fortune to get into the game. I lost a boatload of money with it but I still enjoy playing so eventually I might get my capital back 😁
What about the torture part of it? The unending mental stress resulting from playing for hours.
It only takes me 50 minutes per day to deplete all my energy. I also multitask so I'm usually watching youtube videos about crypto while I play or watching a tv show.
Playing under a guild is much different. Apart from free 50 slp from adventure mode, you must meet a minimum daily target or you're so gone from the guild, The pressure is terrible. Mental stress at its finest.
To make things worse, Axie Infinity removed slp rewards from adventure later on. Gladly, I already quit by then.
These changes don't address the principal issue which is this is a ponzi system, Sky Mavis are only trying to drip out liquidity slowly so they can try and make up for the Ronin hack and try to wait it out, this project is doomed to fail

They do exactly that... There is no more incentive to rush into the game and drop all your earnings on top of the next person. In order to earn decent rewards, you have to be quite good at the game and spend a good amount of what you earn. On top of that, they're always improving the game to a point where it is actually a decent game now. No more playing brain dead adventure mode just to farm rewards, now you have to enjoy the game and be competitive.
All of this to say axie infinity is no longer about milking as much as possible as fast as possible. It is about the game now and making it enjoyable and sustainable, just like it should have been from day 1 but they fucked that up.
All games die eventually so you're right... I just hope that sky mavis learned from this experience and apply that knowledge to the next project.

You must not understand economics and maths if you're making such claims or reading directly from their marketing pitch without giving it any cricial thoght. In the history of ponzis, when were they able to unponzi the ponzinomics?
Don't forget, Samsung invested a bunch of money into Sky Mavis, so there are big money players invested in this whole P2E paradigm, hoping to capitalize on the fervor and FOMO.

Samsung is basically a government created monopoly with deep ties to certain families in Korea that retain power year after year, they're not exactly someone I would hold up as honourable business practitioners, so it doesn't surprise me that they keen on funding shitcoins and trying to wreck people its always been part of their business
I agree 100%. Samsung is basically THE crown corporation of South Korea, and they don't receive equal treatment under the law, they're basically the Untouchables, and they're big time financial backers of Sky Mavis

Very interesting post, I myself was considering whether to take more interest in the Axie world, but just when I wanted to invest the whole market fell. I wonder if all these changes will fix tokenomy.

I've been following Axie Infinity since last year. I've considered investing in AXS several times. As the inflation of AXS was very high, I did not. I was not aware of SLP as I didn't play the game. Now the inflation of AXS also decreased to %34.

Damn you dodged a bullet there. I don't find AXS that useful and inflation is still quite high either way, I would stay away from it until they can find new ways to improve AXS tokenomics.
SLP was super inflationary and that was the main problem with the game, they're trying to fix it but it will take a while to repair the damage.
I honestly do not see a utility, to me, to play Axie Infinity. Not being able to own the Axies and use all purchased NFTs whenever you want (not taking them away after a certain time has passed). It comes across as very get-rich-quick scheme-y. I remember seeing the $AXS token fly into the stratosphere from pennies, and it came across as a lot of hype and not the best User Experience

Anyone that bothered to look at the tokenomics before jumping in could see that. It was about cashing out as fast as possible before it all goes to shit. The ability to farm SLP while playing adventure versus bots was an absolute joke.
I'm just glad that they're trying to fix the game and find a more sustainable way to go forward. The new game is much more entertaining. Most people looking for financial gains wondered off and the people that stayed actually enjoy playing the game.
