A professor was conducting a lecture at the university. As soon as the class began, a student whistled loudly.
The professor paused and asked calmly,
— “Who whistled?”
There was no response.
He resumed the lecture. Moments later, the same sound echoed through the room—a whistle once again.
He stopped, looked around, and asked,
— “Who’s making that noise?”
Still, silence.
He continued the lesson. But when the whistle came for a third time, the professor quietly closed his notebook and placed his pen down.
He said,
— “That’s enough for today’s lesson. But before I leave, let me share a story with you.”
A hush fell over the room. Every eye focused on him.
He began:
“One night, I couldn’t sleep. Feeling restless, I got in my car and began to drive—no destination, just the road and my thoughts.
While passing a quiet street, I noticed an elderly woman standing by the roadside, struggling to carry a heavy bundle. I stopped and asked, ‘Mother, can I help you?’
She smiled gratefully and got into the car.
As we drove, I realized she seemed to know me quite well. Looking into my eyes, she said:
— ‘Doctor, I have an illegitimate son. He studies at your university. I want to ask you to look after him, help him grow into a decent human being.’
I replied, ‘Of course, mother. But if you tell me his name, I can make sure to guide him properly.’
She smiled and said,
— ‘There’s no need to tell you his name. You’ll know who he is. He’s mischievous and always whistles during class.’”
At that moment, every student in the room turned to look at the boy who had been whistling.
The professor smiled and said softly:
— “Come here, young man. Did you really think I earned my PhD from a cattle market?”
