Happily unemployed.

It's been too long.

Today is the first day since i was 14 that i am fully unemployed. 19 years solid since getting my first job behind a bar at 14. I'm fairly sure that is illegal these days but back then the rules were a lot looser. I was in college but worked part-time. I have worked for cash and had bits of jobs but for the first time in my life i am not tied to anybody for money or work.

This is only a temporary situation but i will take a few months to myself and obviously keep going with crypto to tide me over. There is a sense of freedom for the moment and i'm going to make the most of it while i can. I might not have this chance again until i retire properly the next time.

13 years is more than a third of my life working 40+ hours a week and you do get institutionalized over time. So many of the management in the company want to leave but can't. They have families, bills mortgages and after so long in the job don't know what to do afterwards. It's scary to uproot from what you know and jump into the unknown.

I've been talking about it for at least five years but there was always a good reason not to leave. Something that kept me there with a steady wage. Everybody is in the same boat and even from handing in my notice, i have been told so many times how jealous the rest are. They wish that they could do the same. They don't know much about what i do in my spare time and how much it will help me to make that leap.

What does the future hold?

Who knows?

I certainly don't.

We are in the middle of a huge bull run so all of this is an illusion. All of the numbers are not real and it could disappear in a second. If we reset to 10c Hive and 0.001 DEC value then it all goes away in an instant. Luckily I have my college course finishing in December, 13 years in management and a fallback in my old job if the worst comes to worst. I don't think that it will however and will try to make this last as long as possible through earning crypto from as many sources as possible to balance my income. That and minding the expenditure to make it stretch a bit further and see how long i can get away without having to go back to real employment.

Regardless of when that happens it will be on my terms and a career that excites me. Thanks to Hive, i have those options now and that freedom of choice.

What i have always wanted to have for my work.

For me it's not about the money, it's about financial freedom and not having to work to do the things that you like. At the moment, hive allows this and who knows. In the future it might even do a lot more for the whole community.

Well, congrats for the courage. It is hard to do this, and especially to shift to a business mindset, after being employed.

Thanks man. Appreciate the message and I'll try to ride this wave for as long as possible.

Use the time wisely to set up my next venture what ever that might be. It will be hard to change my mentality after 19 years of continuous employment but worth taking the chance.

I also worked from when I was very young. I have been happily unemployed for almost 6 years now. I am 60 years old. The last job I had was a warehouse job that was physically debilitating. My husband is retired and we aren't exactly wealthy but we have enough to do what we want and enjoy the freedom we have. The decision/choice to quit or leave a job is harder the older you get. And if you have responsibilities and financial obligations that compounds the difficulty. I am learning that you can make money again but you can't get back the time you lose in an unhappy situation. Like a job that makes you miserable. I am not saying I will never work for anyone else again. I might but it would have to be a remote only job.

I can resonate!

And sometimes when I feel like this isn't moving fast enough I remind myself that it moves as fast as it needs to and I am in charge of the pace. Have a great day, @nathanmars! 😀

It is understandable and inspiring at the same time, personally I work for companies, businesses, and whatever is related to the world of "decent work", a few years ago I got tired of striving for people who do not value what each one does for them, today they do a little less than two or three months I am beginning to consider a life with cryptography, although I am at the beginning of my path and with much ahead to learn, reading these blogs mainly help not to fade my desire to continue learning and staying, thanks !

WoW good for you @niallon11 for taking that leap! You deserve it to work, and for you to not! Hopefully that will happen for you and the rest of us who need it too! Chapeau!
Have a great leisurely week, Lee :)

It's hard not to, but don't feel so uncomfortable. You are at a perfect age to withdraw from working for someone else. Wander the internet and match your skillset to to the things you see that you could do alone, from wherever you wanted.

But everyone is different and this lifestyle isn't for everyone so if not, hunt down a job , there are many out there right now but again, don't stress if it takes a little time.

The point is, do whatever it takes to put your mind at rest and sleep the sleep of a contented man. Your life, your choices, peace of mind is everything :-)

Have a great weekend figuring it all out :-)

Solid advice and appreciate the thoughts. There is a lot of opportunity out there across the internet and it's going to be a fun period trying to figure out where to go next.

Like you say, there are plenty of jobs out there right now, so i'm not too worried. I could get something next week back in the retail sector but i don't think it will come to that.

New opportunities and new experiences. It should be interesting.

This is only a temporary situation but i will take a few months to myself and obviously keep going with crypto to tide me over.

Sometimes this kind of break is needed to help restrategise and reevaluate our lives.

What you have done is what a lot of people should do so far they have multiple sources of income.

To be honest, there are some jobs that are not worth it

But yeah I hope you get more happiness from your freedom

What you have done is what a lot of people should do so far they have multiple sources of income.

It's great that hive has given us the chance to take these risks. I have savings form my job to fall back onto but it will be interesting to see how far i can get on crypto earnings for the next while.

The job wasn't worth it anymore for what it was costing me in terms of my time and energy. I wasn't happy there anymore and that was enough to make me leave. I just needed the right circumstances to help me get out of it.

That's really nice

Left mine two years ago and though my feet are still wobbly, the excitement of seeing myself taste a bit of freedom is why I am working on total freedom.

If you are as grateful as I am for hive then I can relate.

Worry not about your next steps, your inner person will definitely guide you. I wish you growth going forth.

This is what i am looking forward to myself. There is a fear of the unknown but if i didn't jump i would never know.

Glad to see others that have done the same and are doing well.

So 27. I worked since I am 16 and continued to that path til 2016 when I resigned and traveled for 3 years, met crypto, did some investments and I havent had to work til this day, but now I am learning to code to get back to the coliseum of corp world (hopefully startups) and make money again, cause the wallet demands it. Either way, Im happy for you man, I hope everything turns out as it should and must.

Ahh, that's inspiring. I've seen how much heart you've put in your coding journey on your blog posts. I've been learning how to code for two years now but ever since I started painting, my interest has begun to wane. I'm taking a gamble with the arts till maybe next year to see which of them I fall back on while still maintaining a corporate job.

Happy to read that you are still alive, my gringo friend! :)

If you want to code (especially for HIVE): I am looking for programmers. I can give you a kickstart. Find me on Discord.

I def want to do it for Hive so yes, I'll send you a message amigo.

Sounds like a good way to spend a few years though. Just having that freedom for a few years to travel, live and make choices based on what you wanted to do instead of had to do.

I like being busy too much to stay unemployed forever but i like the sound of going in my own direction for the next few years and not having to worry about money for my expenses.

Thanks for the good wishes and hopefully we can all get a big boost from hive this year to make our lives a little bit easier.

I hope you best in your life dear. From time to time, I consider resuming to go fully crypto. The upcoming 6 months will be decisive to finalize my decision.

We are always here with you!

Best,

Thanks for the kind words. They always mean a lot when I see such great feedback for the hive community and well wishes from the people here.

I hope that you can come to a good decision to suit your life as well and that crypto can make that happen in the best possible way.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Fair play @niallon11. The worst that can happen is getting another job and there are plenty of them around.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

No shortage at all and even my old job is waiting any day that i wanted to pick it back up.

Not worried for the long term at all.

Regardless of when that happens it will be on my terms and a career that excites me. Thanks to Hive, i have those options now and that freedom of choice.

I'm also very grateful for hive and crypto. Very optimiastic about the future for the whole crypto community.

We are both coming from the same place. Hive has done great things for us and it will keep doing great things for more and more people as we see the whole eco-system grow and expand.

The crypto world gave alot of wonderful opportunities to alot of people all over the world...it was a blessing..

Totally agree!

Crypto was a blessing for many and most let greed and fear get in the way.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Let me be sincere with you , i once allowed fear to make lose out in the opportunity to grow my bitcoin portfolio , i bought bitcoin at a price when it was less than $5000 some years ago , if i had not sell it because of fear , i would have made up to 10× my investment....but i have learnt my lessons..fear is not good in the crypto business.

Bold move.Congratulations on your break you need it and happy crypto gains while they last..All the best in your endeavors

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I have some safety nets set up so it's not too bad. A slight risk but worth taking.

A break is good for everybody from time to time. I'm looking forward to this one.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Nobody can predict the future but I think HIVE will do well. As for DEC, I am not sure if it will drop back to the peg. I do think they will add more value so I think it should be above the peg.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Having recently done this myself to become a full time dad i understand completely where your coming from

But what ever you next step in your journey of life, i wish you good fortune :)

Congrats on taking the jump yourself. I like the thought of full time dad, part time crypto built around your schedule.

I hope that it all goes well for you too.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Taking the bull by the horn. Great! Do enjoy this time of freedom but not too much, you might not want to go back again.

We will see how it all plays out for the next few months but i am a worker and can't see myself happy at home indefinitely.

I need a reason to leave the house and get things done which is the good side of a job. I don't think it's healthy to be at home all of the time and i won't do much without a reason.

I try to find meaning in doing what I care about and building new skills. That's how I keep my mind and soul in check. Plus I engage in physical activities. One way to feel usefulness is through inactivity

Best wishes and enjoy being out of the slavery system!

There's many ways to live a happy life these days, and a formal job is not the only way to achieve that.

I think that more and more people are starting to realize the exact same thing. It's been a huge year in terms of people moving jobs, changing house and starting families.

This is a year of change from all perspectives.

Exciting! Enjoy the moment and take profits where you can. I hope these months bring you something that turns your life into something ‘better’, whatever that may be.

Thanks @soyrosa, these are exciting times and i can feel the good vibes across the chain from everybody.

We are part of something big and these are still the early days..

Heading for bigger and better on all fronts i think.

It takes huge courage man to take the plunge! All the best buddy!

Thanks man.
I've been thinking about it for a while but glad that everything lined up and i could make that leap.

Fun times ahead.

Uhh. Congratz!
I am looking forward to updates on how your journey comes mate! Would be need to follow :D

But, take a break first ;)

Not sure where i am going myself yet but looking forward to the challenge.

Thanks for the the message and i'll definitely be posting as i go along.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Are you going to live off of Crypto or do you have some other income? :D

Sounds fun buddy! :D

Good for you! Not being employed leaves you with a lot of spare time. Use it wisely 😉

I hope HIVE improves the lifestyle of many Hivers. So, just HIVE on.

If hive keeps growing this way for the next few years then it definitely will.

There is so much happening that price and use case will definitely keep growing and make it possible to live form a small amount of hive earned every week.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

At least there is cryptocurrency these days.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It's life changing. Without crypto i wouldn't be able to make this move and would be facing another 10 years with the people that i have left behind.

This is working in an expensive country as well. If i worked in a country with a low cost of living it would be much faster and easier to become full time crypto and have a good quality of life.

An exciting adventure awaits you. Have fun!

I hope that it all works out in the end. Scary but fun times indeed.

If we reset to 10c Hive and 0.001 DEC value then it all goes away in an instant.

Then many people could buy a lot of Hive and DEC.

For me it's not about the money, it's about financial freedom and not having to work to do the things that you like.

These are the same. Both are about the money.

My current goal is to earn enough money with Hive to buy and live on a small sailboat. That will be my way out of the financial discrimination, in which I currently live in. I live with multiple disabilities, I receive a pension-like income, and I also work in a four hours per day part time job, but my total income still does not reach the local minimum wage, and I have to use most of my income to pay the rent and the also high regular monthly bills. This is why I would like to live on a small saiboat.

Greetings from Hungary.

Upon mulling the switch from PowerPC to Intel chips, Steve Jobs once said: "It's nice to have options." Having Hive as one of those options is a very good thing. Best wishes to you! :)

After so many years entrenched in the workforce, the leap is courageous. Congratulations!

This is most likely the future... But freedom has its costs. One of them being that one trades the "security" of a corporate job for the responsibility to generate income, consistently. If this part works out well, freedom should be great for those of us desiring it.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I think no body can to think about the future

It's hard to know really. Things have changed so much in the last couple of years that we don't know what the next few will look like.

Congratulations! Sounds exciting.

I hope you keep us posted on how it's going!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Congratulations! I wish you will manage to make the living that suits you without ever needing a job.

Thanks man.
We'll see how far crypto can take me and how long this bull run will last but i have a solid base on hive and leo to keep money coming in at least.

It might not be enough depending on how the process last but it's nice for a break anyway.

That is a great story my friend, it is so good to have choices, happy for your freedom may it continue till you are ready :)

Cryptocurrencies is changing alot in society, we can now make short term and long term decisions without fear. This will give time to decide on what's next

Yes! It sounds like you're on a very exciting adventure! Who knows what is next!!? But, personally i belive in a bright future. All the best to you!!

Fair balls to you auld stock. Best of luck with the next chapter. Hive is hotting up now big time, which we all expected, but it's great to finally see the momentum.

I started out at 15 as a PAYE worker too at a hotel in Galway. I was kitchen porter, hall porter, waiter, barman and night porter over the years. I always worked part time through 5th year, leaving cert and college. It's a good grounding and nice to have a few pounds in the pocket. I started working at around 4 really though out on the farm with my Dad, proper graft!

Should have done a rage quit post and emailed it on to the company.
