Votes count.
They are your voice in what happens around you. We are looking at a very interesting situation in the North of Ireland right now. Without going into the long and tragic history of the whole troubles and war of independence. The Country was stolen by the brits. It caused a bit of trouble. We forked out the south. The North was left behind. Catholics were highly flagged and there were a lot of circle jerks going on from the sock puppet government.
Fast forward to the last general election where Catholics took the majority for the first time since the split and it gets interesting. They are already talks of joining the rest of the country and remaining in the EU. Lots of issues and politics later it all comes down to votes.
How you vote directly effects outcomes.
We have seen a similar scenario play out with the whole steem/hive saga. Maybe not quite as dramatic as the partition and segregation of a country but the same basic principle.
Your votes matter in how we proceed from here.
If you don't like what you see then it can be changed.
It's not easy to create change but it can be done. Like anything it happens with small changes that gain momentum over a long period of time.
If you are voting for anybody then they exist to serve the community. Not their own needs. Politicians and witnesses are there to provide a service for their voters. They are elected based on the service that they promise and should be held to those promises.
Voting is one of those ways to make a change.
It might be a bit much to change the witness rankings with your vote as it would take millions of hive to make a difference at the moment but if you can gain enough support it could be done. The direction of the chain could be changed if enough people wanted it to happen. But that is the grand scheme of things and would take a long time.
There are quicker and easier ways to make a change with your vote.
The content that you vote for matters.
It might only be a small thing but voting patterns shape the whole eco-system.
If our biggest stakeholders only vote for meme's then you can guarantee that form tomorrow 90% of the content here will be a meme.
People chase rewards as much as anything else here and votes count.
So what if they only voted for high quality outward facing content?
Wouldn't we see a lot more quality content produced in search of those rewards?
That would change the face of the platform by itself. Outward facing, SEO optimized, well researched content.
A search engines dream.
Or if not the largest stakeholders. What if every small stakeholder voted this way? Would it have the same effect.
Looking at LEO a whale vote is about 40 LEO. I have 3 for my vote. I know a lot more who have about the same. It really wouldn't take much to change the culture if people wanted to see more results.
I vote replies as well because I want to see more engagement. That is a culture that i like to see and therefore i reward positive behaviors with my votes to see even more of it.
The same with quality content. If I see posts that I think will bring in more traffic to the site then the will be getting the largest votes.
It's what I want to see, so I will do what I can to see more of it.

Voting is a benefit of a decentralized crypto blockchain platform such as Hive . It is one of the components of decentralized finance that makes it tick. Votes on here indeed are our voice as regards how we want the affairs of the blockchain to be run by voting different witnesses on here .
I agree that voting does matter and I think good SEO content should be promoted. I think the benefits of doing so really do help in getting more people to learn about LeoFinance and other communities. However, I sometimes wonder if the multiple front-ends hurt Hive in that regard because it's reposted on many different front-ends when using multiple tags.

Yes, the way you vote (upvote/post/comment/etc) shapes hive as a whole. Everyone is voting by their actions..
