I'm old-school when it comes to tipping at a business. I was taught that tipping is done for service above & beyond what is expected. I'm definitely not tipping if I brought my items to the cash register.

From Apr-2020 through Feb-2022 I left larger tips than normal just because it was a crazy time 4 service workers who didn't ask 4 zero customers. Even then, I never tipped when I served myself. When it ended, my tipping returned to normal.
those were crazy times, so many people lost their businesses
