This is important — privacy can be compromised without minimal caution. A few tips to keep in mind when using popular tools like Zashi, Near Intents, Mayachain, Thorswap, Edge Wallet, etc.
Near Intents and Mayachain currently only support transparent Zcash addresses (t1...).
When swapping from Bitcoin (bc1...) or Ethereum (0x...) and avoiding those addresses being linked, use a different transparent recipient address for each swap.
Most wallets will automatically shield $ZEC afterward — once shielded, funds can be consolidated into a single shielded wallet
When shielding $ZEC, the time spent in the Orchard pool matters. If planning to hold $ZEC, remain in the pool rather than unshielding. Coins can be held and spent from shielded addresses.
Even if avoiding exposure to $ZEC price, spending some time in the pool is preferable, since instant in-and-out is easier to spot
When shielding or unshielding, avoid exact, unusual amounts (for example, 123.4135 ZEC). Rounded numbers make transactions less distinctive and improve privacy
If funds are already shielded, exact amounts matter less because transaction contents are shielded and only visible to the recipient. That makes Zcash technology useful for payments without revealing wallet balances or compromising privacy
