National Divorce: It Is Time

in LeoFinance2 years ago

America is too big. America is ungovernable. We are at each others' throats and the only chance for peace is to just go our separate ways.

Here's How We Break This Up

Here's a map I made showing how I'd like to break this country up.

And here's another map I made a year ago just for laughs.

If you disagree with my plan, you can make your own future USA map here:

Some people don't like to admit it because of the lingering hangover of WWII era propaganda, but the middle part of North America has several different cultures. Sure, we all speak the same language, and we kinda all look alike, but the average guy from Boston has a VERY different set of values from the average guy in North Dakota.

I based the above maps on a couple of books I read that detail these cultures. If you want to do a deep dive on the topic, check out "The Nine Nations of North America" by Joel Garreau. This book was written in the early 1980's. A simple graphic of his work is here:

A more up to date book on this same subject is Colin Woodard's "American Nations" published in 2011. It's a good book, but man, this Colin dude is extremely prejudiced against Southerners. It's off putting and I'm not even a Southerner. Anyway, here is his map:

It's The Legal And Moral Thing To Do

I know what you're going to say, "Muh Civil War! Honest Abe Lincoln proved that America is a single indivisible nation for all eternity and we say so in the pledge of allegiance you dirty hippie!" Well, all I've got to say to that is, if I tell you your house is mine, and you say no, and I punch you in the nose, then that must mean your house is mine. We gave up deciding what is right with trial by combat long ago I thought?

First of all, this nation was FOUNDED on secession. The Revolutionary War that kicked off in 1776 was a war of secession against the British Empire.

Second of all, the states came together to form the national government. The national government didn't form the states. Anytime the states want, they can dissolve the federal government. The South had every right to secede. Secession is perfectly constitutional. Abe Lincoln was just an evil control freak. Show me where in the Constitution it prohibits secession? In fact, during many of the various state ratifying conventions the question was asked, "What do we do if the national government becomes tyrannical?" The answer given was that in the last resort, a state can simply secede from the Union.

The Idea That This Is A Representative Republic Is A Joke

When the Constitution was ratified there were approximately 10,000 citizens for every congressional representative. It was very realistic to see your rep in your community and have an ability to talk to him. James Madison, who some have called "The Father of the Constitution" was once asked how many people would there have to be per rep before Americans were once again in the taxation without representation situation. His response was approximately 30,000 people per congressional rep would be the maximum to expect representation in Congress. America has grown a lot since the 1790's and now there are around 800,000 citizens per representative. Unless you have a minimum of $100,000 a year to donate to political coffers I can guarantee your representative in DC doesn't give a damn what you think.

I've seen some proposals lately to greatly increase the number of representatives in Congress to make it more responsive to the people. This is a really bad idea. Thousands of years of experimenting with legislatures have shown that legislative bodies with more than about 400-500 members become ineffective. Washington DC wisely capped the size of the House of Representatives at 435 members in 1929. Stuffing more reps into DC won't improve the US government. We need to break this country up so that fewer people need to be represented in each regional capitol.

I got most of these ideas from the great Tom Woods. He's got a wonderful podcast if you like podcasts, and he even wrote an ebook on the subject of national divorce, so check it out!

It Wouldn't Be As Hard As Some People Think

Bob Murphy, another great podcaster, has done several episodes on the practicalities of breaking this country up. He specifically works with Texas seceding and becoming independent of the United States and addresses such practical issues as what to do with military bases and equipment, and how to handle Social Security in that situation. Yes, splitting the country up would be complex and create some headaches, but it isn't impossible. A lot of the issues would work themselves out over a few years.

Bob Murphy has several shows on the subject of Texas independence. Just do a search on his website here if your interested.

It's Already Happening

Like it or not, this country is breaking up. The sate of California is passing laws that restrict and exclude banks that finance gun companies. Texas is passing laws that restrict and exclude banks that DON'T finance gun companies. More stupid laws around climate change, EV's, infanticide, and the LGBTQWERTY mania are being passed by different states in very different ways.

The American people are self selecting into different geographical areas also. Almost every New Yorker who didn't want to be a COVID prisoner has already moved to Florida. Uhaul can't get enough trucks to help all the people trying to flee California right now. There are even a few shit-libs in red states that are packing up to move to California or New York. We're breaking up and there's no way to stop it at this point.

The only questions are the specific hows of breaking up. I don't expect any state to officially declare independence from DC. I do expect more and more states to act increasingly independently of DC in order to protect their own interests and people from the dysfunction and insanity of Washington DC. I predict that in another decade DC will as irrelevant as the Supreme Court has made the Constitution.

It's Better Than The Alternative

The United States of America is an empire. It has been for several decades at least. Empires die. Empires break up. To keep the United States together at this point would take a level of tyranny that none of us wants to live under. Let's just go our separate ways in peace.
