Do you think that we are held back in fear because "we" fear, or is it that we fear the judgement of others more than the failure for ourselves?

We fear judgment and punishment, above all else. I am trying to sort out what needs my protection and what does not. In a moment of divine inspiration, I understood that the primary "thing" that does NOT need my protection is judgement. We have allowed a great many of our fellow human beings to be imprisoned for minor offenses. This has resulted in cognitive dissonance among all of us, and we an no longer tell good from bad for ourselves. We rely heavily on government dictates, and are going along with those same dictates without thought. The covid con is a prime example. I am mostly thinking out loud here.
