If I was using a Windows keyboard, F12 would be an option. No F12 on either iPad or iPhone. But here’s a typical sequence of events:

EDITED AGAIN: Well, I ran into a Catch-22. I can record things that work successfully (such as entering the Yeast Lab and making yeast). While recording, a red bar displays atop the menu bar and when done, the recording shows up in my photos folder. But when recording a failed attempt to enhance, as soon as it fails and gives the “a problem occurred” message, recording also fails and nothing is written to my photo folder. In further weirdness, very occasionally (maybe 5% of attempts), enhancing actually works:
