Of course. Most of their activities happen on discord and if you don't appear there, you may not get curation for your posts.

I used to spend some time on weekly basis, commenting and curating well written posts. But, I don't want to use discord to get curated.
Yeah, they are many like that on Hive. They make you join discord channel and put you on a watch list before accepting you as a community member.
I don't know why. But, their communication is mostly on discord. I understand when community moderators are there. But, everyone?
Like one community called Hive learners, they make you write application for membership and put you through a waiting process that could take forever. I don't have that patient to do all those stuff.
I wouldn't do it either and I would rather stay in communities were everything is done on the platform itself.
