I would like to start with Henry Hazlitt’s article, The Task Confronting Libertarians. He identified four primary responsibilities.

3/ #blacklions

First task: focus on a few critical issues to provide informed answers to show the public that an alternative exists as a replacement for the mainstream solution.

4/ #blacklions

Lovers of liberty should go beyond generalities and must provide convincing arguments on issues like:

  • guaranteed incomes

  • bigger government spending

  • more laws for so-called consumer protection, and

  • more

2nd task: Lovers of liberty must learn to accept the fact that we cannot rely on big corporations to support us in the conflict against government expansionism.

6/ #blacklions

Hazlitt identifies reasons for the timidity of big businessmen to protest against interventionism: legal threats, fear of prosecution for unfair labor practices, and hostile examination of their income tax returns.

Third task: Lovers of freedom must maintain their confidence about the great advantages of liberty over policies of coercion.

The last task seems impossible: Freedom lovers must demand the government provide honest currency.

I think we cannot rely on the government to do that.
