Introduction
Of all the planets in the universe, Earth stands out with its ability to sustain humanity with enough resources and support. Humans survives freely on her as she continue to support us every time without let up. Our mother, Earth is self-sufficient with helps from it's solar system to keep humans thriving and successful.
Beautiful Jewel as Astronauts referred our mother to be, have strong structure and systems that makes life simple, easy and sustainable. Humans lacks nothing on earth and keep exploring for new ideas, events and knowledge of nature to solve their problems and live longer. Earth have to regenerative powers and cleanse agents which keeps resources being renewed and clean at all time. With these abilities and potentials, some factors can threatening and endangered humanity and our mother earth. Let's talk about those Woes.
Four Woes That Threaten The world And Humanity.
These factors might be natural or man-made with destructive effects that challenged humanity and our mother earth. Four of them are:
Natural Disasters.
They are great force of nature that threaten the earth's system and resources. Their occurrence never pleasing but destructive which can affect humanity and their properties negatively. Although they are natural, but they might be caused or aggravated by humans which in turn resulted in untold suffering to humans.
Earthquake, one of the natural disasters can cause substantial damage and every year, over 100 of massive ones are experienced in earthquake prone areas. In Haiti, massive earthquake followed by strong waves hit the islands in the early 2000 and cause untold suffering to the people. It disrupt their socio-economic activities, destroy buildings and other critical infrastructures and many people lost their lives too. After the ugly and fatal events, dead bodies from cemetery polluted their water bodies which leads to the outbreak of various diseases.
Flooding is another natural disaster that's ravage the world and disrupt the socio-economic activities. In the year 2010, over ten states out of the thirty sixty states of Nigeria experienced massive floods. This massive accumulated water covers the buildings, roads, railways, farmlands and houses which affects crop production, animals and humans being killed and exposure of wild beasts like dangerous reptiles. Flooding can be more difficult to manage and ranked as one of the worst hazard affecting the world and humanity.
Wars
Wars and fightings are ugly occurrences that affect humanity and world. Nothing good comes from it, only ugly experiences like piles of dead ones, maimed body parts, destruction of infrastructure and environmental problems. Take a good look at Gaza Strip as Israel bended on destruction the territory with their military mights. Sad faces of the children and destruction of once treasured land of the people reminds everyone that war and hatred is against humanity and nature.
Since the first world wars till now, the scale of war have expanded and involved many lands. The war equipment have been upgraded with use of tanks, aerial bombs, machine guns, biological factors and nuclear weapons that can travel across far distance and be guided to hit their targets. Humanity keep budgeting huge amounts of money for the research and development of more deadly weapons which affects the environmental resources and kill millions of people.
Food Shortage
Despite the improvements from the scientists on crop production, processing and maintenance as well as animals aspects, food and it's items keep increasing in prices and short in supply. Many people are hungry and lying helplessly for no hope on what to eat and when to eat too. Food shortage happens worldwide as a result of war, corruption, economic collapse, poor management of agriculture and even environmental factors. For instance, Nigeria Government blame the high cost of grains and wheat for bread and other food items to the wars in Ukraine. Because they depend solely on that war ravaged country for their food.
Malnutrition have killed many people especially the children and dependant every year. Available foods lacks basic nutrients that can sustain humanity and leading to untold suffering and diseases outbreak. Basic food items are sell at exorbitant prices which not everyone can afford. For example, every Nigerian home depends on garri, a locally made cassava flour for their feeding. Now, the price have inflated highly that many people can't afford it and will not eat too. Wars in the Northern and pocket of violence in the eastern hinterland are mostly the reason for this scarcity and greedy merchants.
Diseases And Epidemics.
Scores of diseases have affected humanity and disrupt activities. Millions of people still losing their lives due to the poor management of diseases and outbreaks. For instance, Ebola virus and Covid 19 shocked the whole world and leads to many painful results like killing of millions of people, Disruption of socio-economic activities as international borders are shut down for business and cooperation.
Millions of dollars are spent for disease control and management. Apart from the national budgets of various countries, WHO, one of the parent organization in the world spend huge enough of time, money and resources for diseases management and control services. Even individuals are merciful to care for others in order to improve their health and control diseases. I am a recipient of the mosquito nets and drugs from Bill Gates' foundation as he focuses on caring for diseases affecting humanity like malaria etc on areas where it's hard for them to get needed care and abilities to fight these diseases.
Finally
Humanity needs our care and love to thrives. To be sustained and favored, our mother earth should be managed properly and effectively. Every causes of damage on its ecosystem needed to be amended and removed so that it will be regenerated and offer us needed resources and safely space for growth and stability.
