Installing solar completely changed the way I interact with energy.
I also do not have a battery in my regular house but I am completely off grid in the tiny house in the farm.
I would have never imagined how "free" you feel when being off-grid. You become way more responsible when purchasing electric appliances and make sure you turn them on at appropiate times. Just that change of mind is worth for me.
Batteries keep lowering their prices so I expect to be able to get a pretty decent one at the end of this year or next one. The price you get for "giving" your power to the utility company is just not worth it.

Unfortunately we aren't in a position here to go fully off grid although we have lived that way before. You definitely have an entirely different relationship with your resources! When I moved into a house I even felt weird about using an electric kettle or having a long shower!
