Imagine a beautiful road like this that led to old dilapidated stone buildings and unpaved roads with a bunch of cheap motels and a four way split between weekend tourists, old locals who do nothing but drink tea, artists looking for cheap rent and young people trying to put off job hunting drink and date for a few months before life gets stressful.
That was Xiamen in the 2010’s. Surreal. A mix between slums, paradise and the East Village in the 1960’s. Or maybe like a B-grade Bali.
