But where do you spend it in the New World and the Mid Atlantic? Lol, I bet some of the crew end up gambling it away during the long weeks of travel or simply save it until they are back home.
The wages are established basic Military service wages as set by the Spanish monarchy and paid for by the crown. Any of the gold found wold be claimed by the Crown with 15% going to the Governor of the discovered lands, and that was Columbus. There were incentive bounties but by and large the average seaman didn't get shares in any riches found. But I'm sure there was a chest of Silver to pay the crews aboard the Ships and the sounds of dice as well as the ring of coins.
