The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025) - Way Too Long And Not Scary Enough - REVIEW

The Conjuring Last Rites is suppose to be this big goodbye to Ed and Lorraine Warren but honestly it feels more like they trying to set up another spinoff than actually ending anything 😤, two hours and fifteen minutes is way too damn long for what we get here, the first hour drags like crazy because we stuck watching Judy Warren and her boyfriend Tony deal with relationship drama when we should be watching the Smurl family get terrorized by demons, this is a horror movie not a romantic drama about some couple who met six months ago and already talking about marriage, the movie has some creepy moments but they buried under boring family stuff 👻

The ending is all about love conquering evil witch is the same way every Warren movie ends and Im tired of it, give me a talisman or a shocking rite or something different for once, then we get this long wedding scene with Judy and Tony and a bunch of cameos including James Wan and Ed gives Tony the keys to the artifact room like he passing on the family business 💒, clearly setting up a spinoff that nobody asked for and I really hope this doesnt turn into Fast & Furious levels of milking a franchise, movie gets a 7 only because some scenes are genuinely creepy but it shouldve been way better

They did Father Gordon so dirty in this movie 😠, he shows up to help the Smurl family and while he waiting at the church to get official help the demon attacks him and makes him hang himself, I was like really they killing Father Gordon in the final movie, then instead of ramping things up we gotta slow it back down and watch Ed give Tony a tour of the artifact room and play pingpong at a birthday party, that whole scene feels like its from a completely different movie and kills all the momentum, on a horror movie you either keep people scared or get them thinking about dark psychology but dont give them that much room to breath and turn on the lights

The Smurl family stuff is actually pretty creepy when the movie decides to focus on it, theres this scene where one of the girls goes into the pantry and later this demon lady is just standing there holding a doll and smiling at her in broad daylight 🪞, the cursed mirror they get as a communion gift is already cracked and their dog hates it immediately witch is always a huge red flag, problem is the movie keeps jumping between the Smurls and the Warrens and Judy and her boyfriend so you never get to stay with one story long enough to actually feel scared, everything feels disjointed and messy as hell

The opening scene where pregnant Lorraine goes into early labor because a demon attacks her in 1964 is actually pretty intense, the baby comes out stillborn with the cord wrapped around her neck and you can see this demon crawling on the walls watching everything 😨, it takes a full minute for the baby to start breathing and you gotta wonder if it was God or the demon that brought Judy back to life witch is creepy as hell, but then we get this long montage of Judy growing up and repeating this stupid nursery rhyme every time she has visions and it felt cringe, weird because we seen Judy in other movies and she never said this rhyme before
