Black Phone 2 (2025) - Went Full Freddy Krueger And I Am Not Mad About It - REVIEW

Black Phone 2 came out and honestly this thing surprised me more than I thought it would 📞, Scott Derrickson went full Nightmare on Elm Street with it and I didnt even care because Gwen and Finny were doing great together, when they first said they were making a sequel I sat there thinking how the hell are they gonna pull this off since The Grabber died in the first one, are they gonna resurrect him and make some weird ghost story that doesnt make sense, but Derrickson knows horror because this actually worked way better than expected, the whole supernatural angle feels like Elm Street vibes without being a straight copy 💀

The final fight happens on a frozen lake where Gwen dives into freezing water to pull out the dead boys bodies to free their souls and take away The Grabbers power, there are inconsistencies like why doesnt she freeze to death if getting hurt in dreams means getting hurt in real life, but I was having too much fun to care 🧊, The Grabber shows up wearing ice skates made of frozen blood skating around trying to kill everyone which sounds ridiculous but looked cool, overall this worked way more than I expected, I give it a solid 8 out of 10, not perfect but better than most horror sequels

The movie goes hard with gore and violence this time, way harder than the first one with multiple scenes where kids get killed on screen and it felt like a slasher at times 🩸, one scene involves an axe to the face and another has someone getting dragged across a frozen lake and it looks painful as shit, Gwen ends up at this Christian camp with Finny and Ernesto who is Robins younger brother from the first movie, The Grabber starts showing up in dreams but also messing with people in real life throwing Gwen around while everyone sees it but cant see him, raises questions about the rules but it was entertaining as hell

The first 45 minutes drag a bit because the movie is setting everything up and reintroducing characters which feels slow as hell before things start happening, you get this mystery about dead kids and phone calls and Alpine Lake camp where The Grabber used to work in the 60s as a janitor, once the mystery kicks in and we learn more about his past thats when the movie gets you locked in, the idea is he killed three boys at this camp and their bodies were never found so their souls are trapped giving him power to come back 📱, hes stuck between life and death messing with people in dreams and real life

Madeleine McGraw as Gwen steals the whole damn thing, she runs her mouth on everyone and shes the one dealing with most of the horror stuff this time around, her character goes through so much shit that by the end I was feeling bad for her 😬, Mason Thames returns as Finny and the kids grown up, not just physically but his whole vibe is different now, hes angrier and more closed off because of what happened which makes total sense, the movie picks up four years later and both kids are still dealing with trauma in very different ways, Finny beats up anyone who mentions what happened to him
