LeoFinance/Metamask connectivity issue and fix :p

in LeoFinance3 years ago

I had an issue with my LEO account being connected to my Metamask wallet which I figured out last night so I thought I would post it in case you might be having this problem too.

I found the problem when trying to unwrap WLEO to LEO through my Leo Finance wallet.

This is the error :(

Background

I connected my ETH address to my Leo Finance account back when this feature was introduced (and that might have been part of the problem) to get some WLEO v1. So far so good...

WLEO v1 was hacked but the LEO team (in an amazing act of awesomeness) covered the losses and released a much improved WLEO v2.

When WLEO v2 was released I once again wrapped a bunch of LEO to provide liquidity to the WLEO/ETH pair on Uniswap. This went well also but I did not have enough ETH to put all my WLEO in so I had a fair amount of WLEO in my Metamask wallet waiting until I could grab some more ETH to add more tot the pool.

Well, ETH blew up before I could get more so I had these WLEO just sitting in a Metamask wallet doing nothing. I let these linger there for a couple months but with the release of ProjectBlank and a token airdrop happening I figured I'd better unwrap those WLEO back to LEO and stake those bad boys... and that's where the trouble started.

The Problem

When I went to my LeoFinance wallet I saw this...

But I had over 1000 WLEO and I could see them in my Metamask wallet!

They are not there anymore as I fixed the problem but as you can see from the last two screen grabs the ETH addy on LeoFinance and the ETH addy on Metamask are the same...and this is where some serious head-scratching and WTFing occurred.

The Fix

So with the release of ProjectBlank (and the token airdrop) imminent I set to figuring this out last night and here is what I did.

I first changed nodes on LeoFinance and then my WLEO balance showed up in the wallet but when I hit the "unwrap" button I got... THE ERROR.

I actually read the error and thought why would Metamask not sign the transaction so it was back to me Metamask wallet to do some digging.

Disclaimer: I don't know how a lot of this stuff works, I just follow tutorial by others most of the time XD

Clicking the menu dots in the upper-right corner of the Metamask extension brings up this menu.

When I clicked on the bottom choice, "Connected sites" I noticed that LeoFinance was NOT on my list!

So I opened my LeoFinance wallet in a browser window then opened my Metamask extension, clicked on Connected sites then clicked "Manually connect to current site" and BOOM I was connected to LeoFinance!!!!!

Conclusion

I'm not sure why I was not connected or how I was able to wrap LEO v2 in the first place but I know that this fix worked and me LEO is back and staked for the #future.

Hope this helps, have a great week!!

I gave up on MetaMask

Yeah, a lot of this shit is not easy for me to understand at first, Metamask included.

Transferring some Ethereum from Discord tipcc account to Metamask Leofinance... click and.... crash! Nah, too small an amount to bother moving with Gas fees so high.

Thanks, may call you later.

Yeah, the fees are killer too so sending small amounts is kinda usless at the moment. LAME!

:D

Airdrop???? When, where, what????

Short video here that explains it but as long as you have your LEO staked you're good for airdrop.

Very helpful, thank you! I'm hoping I never have any issues but it's nice seeing how someone that DID was able to fix it. Much appreciated.

Sure thing! I may be the only one with this issue but thought I'd post just in case...

I see the whole MetaMask integration as a way to get Ethereum users into LEO; not the other way around. Personally I stay away from the Ethereum DeFi because of the ridiculous fees and being slow and clunky. You should check out https://www.dlux.io developed by @disregardfiat He has two DHF Proposals tat are worth supporting. When HIVE has DeFi, I will be trying them out.
