How it has fallen

I found this funny the other day, where I saw that I started earning SPS from Steem - but I am not on Steem.

image.png

Seems I still have something in Steem-Engine, the precursor to Hive-Engine

image.png

image.png

The problem is to do anything with it, I would have to install Steem Keychain, but I am not even sure if that still exists. I had a look and found this:

image.png

No thanks mate....

I met @stoodkev in Poland at a bar back in 2018, though I doubt anyone remembers.

image.png

This is crypto and I don't trust just anyone with my keys, but it was funny to go and have a look there, because considering how big a part Steem was of my life - it barely even crosses my mind these days and hasn't for a long time. It is like an ex-girlfriend that seemed so important at the time, but now, the name is hard to recall.

Looking at the amount of people using SteemKeychain, it seems that there aren't many who will remember it in even the near future. It looks like it is heading to be a footnote in history as a reference of how the Hive community was born.

This is the last year or so of HIVE

image.png

And this is STEEM

image.png

As you can see, there is a bit of a trend line between the two, with a reflection as on water, while HIVE is moving upward, STEEM is mirroring on the downside.

What you might notice though is the volume between the two and it looks like STEEM has more volume. This is kind of interesting as while the price of STEEM is dropping away steadily and the market cap is less than a third that of HIVE, the daily volume is similar over the last 24 hours.

image.png

image.png

Funny isn't it?

image.png

image.png

For both HIVE and STEEM, Upbit is by far the largest trading platform, with Bithumb making an appearance for HIVE also and then, Huobi for Steem - All of these are trading mostly through Korea. Binance is a Chinese founded company (as is Huobi), but I am not sure it still counts as that as an exchange, as they really have made themselves global.

But, these South Koreans like to trade!!

It is insane really, considering that at least on the STEEM side of things, pretty much nothing seems to be happening there with it as a project - it is just the same group of Korean whales extracting all they can from the pool.

image.png

Stay informed!

I think this goes to show how disconnected price is from activity as based on the activity on Steem, it should have a value approaching zero, but - it is still holding up remarkably well, considering there is nothing there and almost all the very few comments are automated.

But it is still strange for me to visit there today and see how much of a disaster the place has become, where once there was a conflicted but broad and active community, it is a ghost town, filled with what can only really be called shitposts.

I don't think I am going to chase that 20 dollars in Steem-Engine after all....

I will be happier with the 0.266 SPS a day.

Hey @tarazkp, I do remember the times in Poland, great times!
As you mentioned, I'd recommend anyone to avoid using that version of Steem Keychain and try using the latest version we published (although it might be quite outdated by now) :
https://github.com/mattyice/steem-keychain

You can just clone the project, and in your extensions page, activate developer mode, choose load unpacked and select the folder you've just cloned. That would be safer than trusting an unknown source with your keys (the git repository belongs to yabap).

Cheers mate :)
It was fun in Poland and hopefully we can do it again sometime with Hive.

I wouldn't use that crap, but figured there must be a way. Not sure if it is worth it for 20 dollars, but I wouldn't mind the DEC for some rents! :D

Just be sure you change or have changed your password on Hive since the split so it's different than Steem, then far less can go wrong.

I changed the day I moved :)
I have heard of many who haven't though - came across one the other day who should know better.

Can confirm it still works as I have it installed to move the little that remains there.

I still own some of those shit coins. Treating it like a lottery ticket; considered worthless but maybe I'll win. That's how I am with all my shit coins though. Plenty of rainy days, just sitting there. Have a set target for each one. It's been good to me. Held doge like that, not thinking about it for probably three years or more. Thanks Elon. Which reminds me... should probably powerdown those Blurt at some point, then go downvote a few people (just kidding about that last part lol).

I sold all of mine (a year too soon) for Hive, but I should probably check if there are any sitting in other accounts.

It'll probably pump at some point, so keep them liquid at least :)

Doge did alright... Don't think I ever owned a single one. How come Elon doesn't pump the crap I hold?

Blurt.... Even those who go there for "greener pastures" seem to complain how little interaction there is.

I doubled up here after the fork, diversified ever so slightly, and managed to keep roughly 10k liquid Steem for the rainy day. The whole thing was a fluke but I regret nothing. For sure it'll pump, and I'll dump, maybe into HBD savings. The only problem I face is the fact I rarely look at the markets, or I shut my internet off and go away, missing out completely. But there's always next time.

As for Blurt, if you look at how many tokens are handed out on their trending page, the future dumps if the token ever takes off will be massive, stalling progress, sending it back down. And the milkers are there, 'trending' with 2 or 3 votes. What a disaster. Plus looks like a cult.

The only problem I face is the fact I rarely look at the markets, or I shut my internet off and go away, missing out completely. But there's always next time.

It is hard to do in the middle of nowhere :D

I haven't had a look at blurt for a while, but occasionally I get some posts handed to me for a laugh.

I'll take this life over some losing rat race, any day. Building up from literally, nothing, slowly, and carefully this time. Even if it means missing out on potential opportunities. I know what nothing is, so that word 'risk' is something I avoid whenever possible. Even with Splinterlands; somehow I have 100 bucks worth of cards that I didn't know about, made maybe 2 bucks trying to rent them out to what appears to be a saturated market but I could be wrong. 21 bucks worth of SPS. Good enough. I don't want to spend to get more because, nothing, might happen.

Two hyped up air drops coming soon. And I have no clue what I'm supposed to do with any of that shit. For me it'll just sit there; I'll watch everyone else dump on day one and tank the value. Then I'll spend a couple years watching folks scratching their heads wondering why they can't have nice things.

But Blurt isn't a nice thing. More like the nosy neighbor gawking over the fence, wanting all the nice things Hive has. LOL I kind of want to say, while our trash blows into their yard, but that might be pushing it.

I think I have become a bit the opposite - taking risks where before I took very few. However, I haven't had the greatest outcomes through life so I kind of feel the "roll the dice" approach is as good as the wait and see.

Two hyped up air drops coming soon. And I have no clue what I'm supposed to do with any of that shit.

Absolutely no idea either.

LOL I kind of want to say, while our trash blows into their yard, but that might be pushing it.

:D
Unfortunately the wind of desire blows the trash back sometimes.

I come from being reckless and that nearly took me out multiple times. Not exaggerating. I'm not saying you're being reckless. Just saying I was. Probably wise to say I still am and most likely always will be. That's being honest. So I'm being careful because in order to see how far I can push it, I'll need funding.

Treating it like a lottery ticket; considered worthless but maybe I'll win
lol.
For the majority of us on these platforms that's exactly how you have to think of it. How many pennies does it take to get to a million dollars again? Luck on a blockchain blog....is comparable to waiting for the return of Christ.

Luckily, one can earn, and doesn't need to depend on luck. Waiting for random pumps is straight up dumb luck. Can't win if you don't play though.

I have some chops tokens on there.. and some revise ones! Neither of us should have bothered with them in hindsight.

Lols!!!
Are you wash trading them?

I've spent 0.00 seconds thinking about it... but I'm curious to why SBD is still priced so high... I can only imagine JSun messed up the peg.

It is a smaller quantity to pump and only a few people control the rewards, so they can rape the SBD side.

I go over there once every three, four weeks to keep the dust off my account. You are right it looks nothing like it use to. Justin Sun isn't there anymore from my understanding. He still owns it but he went off to be an ambassador or something like that to some country. Edicted was saying the other day that Dan Laimer (I probably have the last name wrong) is working on some new project that is suppose to merge steem with a couple other cypto's. How that all plays out for the platform over there I have no idea.

Yeah, JS went to live in a tax haven.

Larimer is always working on a project and he will generally get some hype around it, but will leave soon after. Perhaps if he had put more effort into Steem, it would have done okay, but EOS made him much more money.

I’ve kept up with Steem a tiny bit, only delegating my steem power to tipU to earn relegation rewards. I’m clawing back up! Got like 200 Steem power now up from 10 lol.

I wonder how you’re getting SPS rewards off there? I was hoping to be able to lol I’ll have to double check, I left a lot of my shit tokens alone there.

I have 3000 Dec in Steem-engine :)

This is what I could not understand with Steemit. I have seen a post with zero letter hit $100. And the other posts quality or non-quality reach high amount in $. Perhaps, that is the reason why people still use Steemit.

I still have some Steem Power there. I may convert it to HIVE.

People go where they think they can earn something it seems. Many don't care about what the environment is like.

Because of such people, the newcomers know HIVE as a social media like Facebook, Instagram.

I have accounts on bithumb and upbit. I wouldn't trust the volume (until taxes are implemented next year). For example, USDC is currently worth 2.6% more BTC on Korean exchanges than say binance or coinbase, so they are playing catch between the large Korean exchanges and trading massive amounts for pennies. With something larger like BTC it's nothing to worry about, but with Steem it's obviously a circle jerk hoping for a sucker to bit.
I warn my friends to be careful touching anything outside of the global top 50 rank, especially if the volume or value is very high on the Korean exchanges compared to others. Steem is a big no for both.

Yeah, it is mostly just wash I suspect. Funny, because once upon a time Steem had one of the lowest amounts of Wash in the industry.

I am glad that Hive has a USDT and BUSD pairing on Binance.

I guess the ex girlfriend (steem) you hardly can remember her name won’t just let you go now that she knows you’ve found another lover (hive) which is way most important right now 🙃🙃 .

I imagine all of my ex-girlfriends think about me daily and want me back. :D

You can say that again ! Stay jiggy!!

It is still a surprise to me too lol to earn on steem while not actually participating there

yeah - it is worth about 3.5 cents a day!! :D

With no value being built, STEEM will go to zero.

There is no other path for the token now and the network will shut down.

When it happens, I would love to see Hive do everything in its power to to at least get back the Steemit.com domain and somehow merge the two networks once more.

...Not the STEEM token though.

Do you think there is still value in those domains?

The Steemit domain - 100%!

If we get it back, we just need to do some redirects and it will be a massive help from an SEO perspective.

Not to mention purely from a brand name perspective.

True, domain authority...

Thanks for this great awareness

Yes, the "great awareness" - I think the world is waking up.

I wish to learn more about it tho

All this trade have set up to move. We are expecting more, the bull.
